OK here it is,
I have spoken to the Notts Constabulary about some sort of collaboration between SIDC members and the Police force.
My reasoning behind it was two fold:
1) Public Relations
I figure that the SIDC will benefit from being seen having positive police input and also the police will benefit from being seen to be co-operating with owners of high performance vehicles
2) It's different
Track days are brilliant, don't get me wrong, however due to various reasons, they are not everyone's cup of tea.
I thought about what could be done for those members who didn't want to go round a track, but still wanted to explore the limits of thier cars in a controlled environment.
I needed Skid pans, slaloms, wide open spaces, cones and people to tell me what i was doing wrong (Instructors) eh VOILA!! Police Driver Training Division.
They have agreed in principle (subject to internal police politics (Nothing to do with this issue)) to put something on for us.
I am at that stage now where I need to gauge interest as I need to commit in writing things like numbers, activities, liabilities, insurance, costings (if any )
Given the opportunity, would you be up for a day or half day of scoob "flickery" in the company of Notts Constabulary (Hopefully sporting thier own Imprezas ) Driving Instructors, being taught how to safely handle your car in the "real" world i.e public roads.
Let me know

Mikey,
i am DEFINITELY interested
I wanted to go on one of the Essex Police driving days, before they were ended. Notts is much closer
As you say, it benefits both ways - we have more respect for the Police and their job, and they hopefully will understand what a fine bunch of people we are
Cheers,
mb

Personally for me:
end of October or after 20th November(4,11,18 Nov) busy.
A week day would be better than a Saturday but a Sunday would be the best
Sorry to be so piccy on dates but you did ask

Cheers for ya responses sofar dudes
Now then, some descisions need to be made so feedback on the following topics would be gratefully recieved.
End of October or Mid November?
Week Day or Weekend?
Full day or Half Day
What would you like to learn ( A full day on a skid pan alone could get a bit boring )
Would you be prepared to contribute towards some police fund/charity or not (Incase I get asked)
If you have any other questions, let me know via the bbs so that other people can benefit from the information.
Also please remember that this is not a done deal yet as it will depend on the politics currently surrounding police driver training and also availiability of the resources (Cars, instructors, venue etc)
That said, i'm 95% certain it'll happen and so was the Sgt i spoke to
A bit more input then chaps would be great and i'll let you know the finer details the moment I find out

I'm up for a day out, it sounds like fun.
besides the other impreza drivers in the lincoln area don't seem to want to acknowledge each other.
It would be nice to chat to other people about my MY99 turbo.

Just having a look at the calandar Mikey...
13/14th Oct - Don't know of any events
Sat 20th - Banshi's Nothern Karting
Sun 21st - SIDC AGM + Karting
Sun 28th - Rolling Road Day @ Well Lane
Fri 2nd / Sat 3rd / Sun 4th Nov - Tour d'Ecosse (I'm probably staying in Scotland a few more days as well)
Mon 12th - SIDC @ Brands Hatch
Thurs 22nd - Sun 25th - Rally GB
Weekends of 10/11th and 17/18th November could be options - anyone know of anything else going on those weekends?
Alternatively, I can do a weekday (although I've already booked 7 days off in November for the Tour d'Ecosse and the Rally ). I'd expect weekends would be better for most though.
I'd love to get on a skid pan. I've had one visit to the land of lift-off oversteer that I managed to sort out some how so the chance to try stuff in safety would be excellent.
Would they do some road driving skils? Observation, car positioning etc. Ideally it would be 1 on 1 but probably not enough time for that. Two suggestions then...
1) Policeman driving with three passengers
2) Somebody driving, policeman in pax seat and two others in the back to listen and learn
Just my $0.02

Maybe something like the ROSPA courses Mikey?
'Driver awareness' is the key to it.

Dude,
I can't make the 8th,9th,10th of November as I'm attending a wedding (no not mine )
Other than that, should be OK for any day. I've got holiday left so I can take time off work, and weekends will be fine.
Skid pan will be great. Cornering techniques (approach, corner and exit), braking techniques (including when and when not to brake). Not sure if they have the set up for this, but good if they can, controlling a puncture at high speed Some places have something that will just auto deflate the tyre at the press of a button. Would be useful for future reference
Would be happy to contribute to the police. If they are prepared to take time out to make us better drivers, I'm prepared to put something back in
Top one for sorting this out dude (if it goes ahead )

Its good to hear something positive for a change from the boys in blue - I originally had my name down for the Dick Grimes day in Essex before he pulled out of the SIDC.
If poss I'd like to come along and learn some skills, but would prefer any day but Saturday (cos I'm meant to work them)

This sounds like a really great idea - I wanna come along too!
Answering some questions....
I think a full day session would give enough time for everyone to have a play, without having to rush things.
Also, I think that some kind of donation to charity could give some benificial publicity of the event.

Mikey,
something as simple as a Police commentary drive along "normal" roads, pointing out hazards, things to watch out for, other driver behaviour etc. would be useful n'all. Maybe even more so that pure skid-pan training.
I spent such a day with an ex-Class 1 driver, and found it facinating.
What can the Police offer???
