Default Southern Big One – Scoobies only – Summer 2005

Why should we let the Northerners have all the fun???

I’m at the early stages of planning a massive (maybe up to 500 cars) Scooby only event in the Central Southern area this summer. Venue, date & details to be confirmed, but it is likely to be around Reading/ Newbury/ Oxford area as it is very central and easy access via motorways. I’m looking to organise this at the height of summer – so July/ August maybe.

This idea has the backing of SIDC and I am working in collaboration with various other Regional Organisers from the South.

As this would be an event for you – the Scooby Community then I’d like to get an idea of what you’d like to see there and also to gauge your interest – so please post with any ideas and indeed if you could be interested in attending. My plan is for a free-entry event with Trade stands and Show & Shine and maybe Sound-Off Competitions. Also raising monies for Charity.

Please post on this thread with ideas on the following: -

 Location/ Venue – that can accommodate 500 cars.
 Trade Stands – any companies you can recommend to be invited.
 Things to do – what would you like to see there to keep everyone entertained (serious suggestions only please).
 Charities that could be supported.
 Anything else at all that you think maybe of interest to the organisers.
And post if you’d be interested.

Thanks in advance for your help. Once a venue and date is confirmed then a new, official thread will be started.

Thanks

Terry

Dunno about location but take on board the successful NBO/Longleat idea of having it at (but not inside) a family venue such as a theme park. It works well to be able to get rid of the family whilst the Petrol Heads stare at cars all day

Trade stands, I'm sure there are local equivalents of the ones that attend the NBO?

Things to do: - depends on the venue. Catering, bar (for those not driving) go-carts or other rides? Definately need things to keep everyone interested, not just petrol heads. A casual show & shine competition, raffle etc.

Charities: - You need to choose one that can assist with the collection of funds and provide a bit of credibility (like Cancer Research @ NBO)

Anything else: - Make sure there is somewhere in shade (or dry) where people can assemble and hang out - the only things I can fault at the NBO is that the bar is INSIDE the theme park and I've got sunburnt both times

Yup, I'm interested, should be able to make it down there in a couple of hours at the most

Good Luck!
