Beware: Giorgio Armani scam - Tamworth!
Mid afternoon today, i was leaving Focus/Do-It-All at Ventura Park in Tamworth when a passing car pipped his horn at me. I didn't recognise him, but he pulled over next to me and got out of the car. An over-familiar chap with an equally over the top Italian accent started talking to me.
He eventually started showing me Giorgio Armani brochures, and expensive leather jackets, and explained that he comes over to the UK twice a year for a show at the NEC. He was in a hire car, which had to be returned by six PM, and his flight home was at nine PM. However, he had some of said leather jackets left over, and they would be a pain to get through the airport (excess baggage, blah, blah) - and he was probably about to suggest that i buy them for rock-bottom prices to save him the airport hassle.
At this point i effectively told him to **** off, as i believe that this is a well known scam whereby he shows a real jacket, but sells me one still in it's packaging - except that it is a cheap plastic replica worth a few pence.
He shook my hand (more over-familiar) and i drove off, followed by Mr Armani, but he never actually left the park, and turned back - presumably to try to scam someone else!!!
So, beware of Italian scamsters in Tamworth, and does anyone have a pointer to info on this scam (i saw details a year or so ago - but forget where).
Take care,
mb

Seen the same scam last summer in that M1 service station at Wakefield. Italian accent, hired Fiat Punto, just about to go back to Italy, got some spare stock, needs to offload it 'cos of customs..... Cheap Armani my a*se....
Had the same a few years ago on M6 services (can't remember which). Having got rid of him, a few minutes later, another one drove up to me and tried on the same scam. There's more than one of them at it. Fancy watches are another favourite.
lmao, some1 tried this on with me not so long ago, told him to fek off and as he drove off his number plate was italian, wondered if Id passed up a genuine thing or not after that

I've now been approached twice by this fellow (or one of many?), both times in the car park of Tesco in Newbury. Once was about a year ago and the second time a couple of days ago.
A man drew in to park beside me as I was preparing to leave my car. He said he was an Italian named Giorgio; he works for Armani and is over here on business; he has a meeting to attend and has lost his way - can I tell him how to join the M4?
After I give him directions, he says he has overstocks (or some such expression) of suits and would like to give me something. I politely say this is not necessary and he drives off.
Sounds Italian and seems quite personable. Same man both times - maybe my face is not particularly memorable!
