Default Heading to FB tomorrow

Hey guys,

I am heading over to Rich @ FB Tuning tomorrow morning for a shakedown and for him to prob give me bad news that I need to spend £1k+ on the car. Not for any reason just because that's my luck. Anyway if anyone is not doing anything tomorrow and fancies a mini cruise or coffee in that neck of the woods then let me know.

Ta,

Matt

Came back from FB yesterday, Rich is a total legend. He sorted out a few odds and ends on my car just like that. Told me in no uncertain terms to get rid of the asthmatic slug of an induction kit I am running and replace with standard box and panel filter and let him tweak the map. He also advised me to get hold of some STi pinks, a walbro and a VF35 turbs for the next step. Very happy now as there seem to be no underlying probs with car. I cannot recommend Rich enough.

Rich is a good bloke and always sees me right
What induction kit are you running at the moment then? Or does Rich mean induction kits in general on the Impreza?

Hey Cliff,

The induction kit I am running was on the car when I bought it and is blatantly a halfrauds special! It is not letting the car breathe right at all, he showed me the corrections, at idle it was going up to about 15% :-/ I don't think he thinks induction kits in general are bad on Imprezas just mine was particularly shocking.

There's a lot of mixed views on induction kits. Certainly on the newage the factory airbox with a panel filter is good for 400bhp and only needs changing if you fit a FMIC, which again is not essential due to the STI TMIC being capable of 400bhp, but the FMIC does not suffer heat soak in traffic/pit lane queues

The design means that the induction kit is often close to the turbo which means it soaks up heat so some shielding and a good cold air feed are essential to make the most of it. I've run with an RCM filter and am changing to a 'kin huge K&N, but cheap filters won't flow like a decent one. Just do the research, make sure you can get what you want with the right mods and once you've made your changes get your map sorted to suit

Yeah he said that 15% was maximum, he didn't specifically say to put an oem box back on he just said change that piece of crap and I suggested putting a standard box back in with decent panel filter as I like the standard, tidy, non ****ed with look. I doubt the induction kit I have got cost more than £4.99 :-) - Fail! I am tempted to buy all the mods I want at once and get it tweaked in one go.

I did have another quite embarrassing issue, he showed me I was only getting 95% throttle because of my car mats covering the pedal stop. Who'd have thought u can increase performance with just a pair of scissors!

Remove the pedal stop and get 110% throttle

Exactly what Jon said. If no FMIC stick with standard airbox just upgrade the filter to a performance one, however should you go FMIC then introduction is optional.

btw - what Subaru do you actually have?
