Default Project Monkeyballer.

As the monkeyball season is upon us I have decided to (finally ) carry out a few, much needed, mods on the RA.

1. Brakes: Fitting these

Not as easy as it sounds as I'm having to change the rear hubs to get it to work and I've had to sell the Advans as they won't fit anymore Braided lines and fresh fluid whilst I'm at it.

2. Suspension: Not 100% which way I'm going at the moment but shocks and springs will be changed for something new.

3. Fuelling: Need to stop the dreaded mid-corner fuel cut.
I'm going to start with my own take on the Spec C fuel pickup and if that doesn't sort it then I have a swirl pot that will be going in.

4. Intercooler spray: Which currently empties itself after about 15 mins of enthusiastic driving. I have a little something that will sort this

Updates will follow when I have something interesting for you to look at

Godspeed do a adapter kit which allows you to fit Newage rear brembos to R180 RA / TypeR rear hubs

Looking good Jim, but those Brembos are quite heavy

I've found that Scoobywork do the thicker handbrake shoes the cheapest, about £85...

http://www.scoobyworx.com/wrx-brembo...hoes-662-p.asp

Just need the Godspeed brackets for the calipers then

They are a touch heavy. Don't need shoes or brackets as I'm changing the hubs

I asked Ian and he couldn't do anything for the 97 with the 290mm solid discs

Looking good Jim! I'm going to miss the Monkeyballs this season

Although I'm always up for weighing the passenger side down a bit before you have it corner-weighted

KYB is a good choice, I have them on mine with whiteline springs and even with the state of the roads though Chalfont it still rides with relative compliance.

Just couldn't live with another short travel setup. Hopefully it will all come together to give me what I'm looking for.

Totally agree about the AGX, although I'm thunking about softening them up for day to day use

Adjustable dampers are over-rated IMO. Theres only one damping rate which matches any given spring rate and having driven a car with this exact setup I would say they're a good pairing.
After initial setup how many people actually adjust their dampers
Not too worried about more than 300BHP in mine with the short gearing. Might look at a bit more torque though

Reducing your damping rate won't do much to soften the ride...

Got a bit more done.
Both rear hubs changed, discs and calipers fitted and new hoses fitted at rigid end. Gave the arches a thorough clean whilst I was at it.

From this

to this

Front brake setups stripped, arches cleaned

Brembos, discs and new struts/springs fitted

Small under bonnet I/C spray reservoir removed (took a little longer than expected as the bracket bolts through from behind the wheel arch liner and snorkel)

Wiring and piping re-routed and airbox refitted

Cable and pipe runs laid through the cable duct on the drivers side to the boot, where after a little mounting bracket fabrication they connect to this

Spec C 12 litre intercooler spray reservoir. Should give me a little more range between refills

Also changed the alternator belt leaving rear struts and springs to assemble/fit, braided lines to connect, fill system with 5.1 fluid, fuel pickup mod, get new wheels refurbed and shod with fresh rubber. Oh and an oil change

Liking the Spec C 12ltr intercooler spray tank.
Have you considered changing the spray nozzels to the high pressure fed ones that atomize the water particles properly?
