Everyone beware
Everyone please be aware
I got a letter this morning
It was supposed to be from the Police
The letter stated my car was involved in a armed robbery and is going to be picked up and taken away for forensic testing
The letter has my full name, address, car registration number and colour
It also has a reference and crime number as well
Also a contact person name but no contact phone number
So I have been in touch with the police and they have been round
Took the letter and envlope for evidence maybe finger print them
They are going to try to be around on the supposed pick up date
They are pleased that the car has tracker fitted and activated
Also my house has full night vision colour CCTV with separate hard drive recorder for evidence if required.
How come these scum can get your full details is beyond me but the police say it is possible
So if you get one of these letters contact the police and ask to have it reported as a crime that way action will be taken

pretty easy. they see what house the car goes to, after watching the car perhaps for quite a while, so they have your address, car reg and colour, and maybe go through your bins etc for your name. they prbably have a friend with a flatbed loader to lift the car.

TBH Dave all the info they need is on line and with open source data such as ASKMID and 192.com you can easily get all of the info you need without much trouble at all!!!

Why would they send a letter if they are just gonna steal it anyway, is it an attempt to make you let it go willingly? Anyone would have to be pretty stupid to let that happen...

If you happen to be naive, stupid or simply caught out on a bad day and hand over the keys your insurance won't pay out as you have willingly given over the keys albeit under false pretences and the issue becomes very murky as the crime is much less significant than burglary or TWOC and is more difficult to follow up as it may not be reported for quite some time!!!!

Good to see that the Police gave it the time of day hopefully they get some prints off it. Not sure there is much they can do unless they actually try to take the car but at least they will be on the radar so to speak. Well done for being on the ball Dave.

would the police send a letter stating its going to be picked up for forensic tests,surely that would give you time to get out and clean it before they arrive,amazing what some people will try these days

No nothing plod checked out the "crime number" and "staff member" no record on either count and no crime at all so they thinks it's a forgery defo.
But whoever done it are real plonkers.
