Default my new impreza turbo wagon

Hi all, names kev from tamworth (staffs) and just signed up as ive finally done the sensible thing and ditched the fords (9 of em) and bought my childhoon (!) dream car - a 1998 2000 turbo impreza

looking forward to getting to know the boards, scooby scene and hopefully some more insight in how to make sure blu is kept 120% maintainedc so i thought i would show ol' blu to everyone

was looking for a decent impreza to replace my V6 mondeo and after looking at a few dog rough examples and missing out on 2 beauties, i was about to give up and serch for an ST220 when i spotted a peach of a scoob on ebay that ticked (almost) all the right boxes

so hoped on a train from tamworth to cumbria to view a '98 impreza turbo wagon (of which i'll admit i was never really a fan, but this one was different) - after a good look over, a long check of the imacualte service history, HPI check and a test drive i was sold in this beautie

car has covered 113K but is backed up with a FULL subaru service history, its had thousands spent on the car regardless of cost and has had all the big jobs done aswell - the service book is actually over stammped!

the car is virtually standard, which is what i was looking for in a scoob, - it even has the original subaru tape player! with the exception of a powerflow cat back stainless steel exhaust and a set of 17" TSW's

she pulls like a train through all gears to redline and she does not miss a beat! the grin i have on my face when i drive her would give the cheshire cat the blues

with every car this age there are a few problems,

car struggles to start in the morning - suspect the battery needs replacing
rust bubbles on the rear arch (common on the scoobs)
drivers side glass is scratched from something being caught in the rubber

my plans for the car are:-

change the wheels back to the standard 16" gold 5 spoke alloys
decent panel filter
MAYBE a decent recirc / BOV
colour code the wing mirrors and maybe the door handles

and thats it!

other than that its just to enjoy the car

comments and criticiisms welcome

Me like it! Good call on the wheels imo. Welcome to the burbling world, only 3 months or so in myself and I am still grinning!

Might be worthwhile getting it checked over by a subaru mechanic... just to be sure...

Enjoy!

Welcome mate, nice motor
Never been a fan or the wagons myself either, but they are growing on me

What fords you had mate?

I emigrated from vauxhall myself, only ever had 1 ford, xr4x4, then went back to vauxhall, but like you a struggle to remove the stupid grin from my face when i'm out in the scoob

its gone up from the V6 by about £60pm making it the most expensive @ £182 pm - BUT i do have 3 points from an acident that happened a few years ago that i cant shift - as a result i lost my NCB which wasnt protected so between the 3 points and an error from my last insurance company i am starting to rebuild my NCB from scratch!

the mrs pays for the ST220 and the focus on her own policy, i was just the named driver

Welcome on board mate

I loved my first classic but wrote it off when I had a bid of an understeer moment. To cut a long story short, the company wouldn't replace it and I ended up in an ST24. Lovely cruiser but it felt so much slower than the Impreza. It wasn't long before I opted out of the company car scheme and here I am - 9 Subarus later

Enjoy the car.

Welcome fella, lovely example you have there.

Re. the BOV thing, leave the standard one on. You'd be suprised how many who run VTa dump valves return to the standard recirc one or an aftermarket recirc one. More trouble then they're worth imo.

Especially if you're looking to keep her standard over ruin her with "induviduality" or chav tat as it's also known
