My RB5

My RB5
Hi all,
I am Dan from Malvern. I haven't graced these pages for a while since selling my classic WRX some 3yrs ago. Since then i've scratched many car itches and now i am back in a scooby.
My previous scooby was this one:
Anyone know if it is still out there...somewhere...i p/ex'd it for a 182 trophy (silly silly boy! lol).
I've always lusted after an RB5, being a fan of Richard Burns and since his tragic passing, they are few and far between in a decent OEM(ish) spec.
So here i am at the start with how it stood from the PH ad.
The spec at present:
- '99 T Non WR model on 98k miles
- Prodive ECU
- Stainless Ninja exhaust
- 120W PIAA driving lamps
- Aircon
- Prodrive quickshift
- Boost gauge
- Prodrive Matts
- New toyo TR-1 proxys (plus one repair! lol)
- Front stainless strut bace
- The odd samco hose here and there
- STI V6 Suspension set up
- Whiteline drop links and anti roll bars
Its got so much history....so many receipts and stamps etc, i am still working my way through them! lol
It feels really keen and drives really well, its running standard boost as it only sees 12-14psi? I am not really bothered about wacking the boost up or getting huge amount of power out it. I just want it to be a sound original example.
I did a little digging on the RBOC and found a bit more detail about the car:
Of particular interest is the bit about the suspension
Some old photos too:
My ownership hasn't really got off to a great start, i had only had it for 8days (i hadn't even had time to clean it!), when my missus had a little hiccup in a supermarket car park.
My biggest concern was the shut lines on the bonnet and door. But its just the wing that is misshaped.
Also thankfully the bonnet and lights are unaffected and open and close without issue. The front wheel was unaffected to as it was luckily on full lock when it brushed the post thus missing it.
I am taking this little hiccup as the prefect opportunity to get some of the small scuffs sorted which were on the car when i bought it and also a little bit of corrision on each rear wing. Water and muck just seems to sit inbetween the arche liner and wing metal.
Scuff on back bumper:
Small scuff on passenger wing/door (i could sort this out myself...but when in rome! lol).
The bodyshop really have done a great job. :clapping:
My friend kept me well informed throughout as did the rep at the bodyshop, only extra thing that needed doing was the metal reinforcement bar that holds the bumper on was rotten so that was replaced too.
The colour is brilliant as has the same level of metallic fleck, the colour change in the light is bag on too, looking grey then blue as the RB should.
A recap of the work done:
I'm looking at it a little bit through rose tinted glasses at the mo so i hope this impression stays! I've got a really nice base now for the car to be mint. A few parking digs to sort and a wheel refurb it will be uber mint.
Still awaiting for the process pics from the bodyshop....hopefully i'll have them soon
I did ask the body shop to take lots of piccies and i have a mate who works there too so hopefully i'll have some in progress shots to share too.
Rest to do:
- Lots and lots of detailing
- Replace the RB stickers for OEM Red ones
- Freshen up the calipers (black and white lettering)
- Get it 4Wheel aligned
- Wheel refurb
- Enjoy it!
All the best,
Dan

Exterior standard apart from Blue RB stickers, black wedges, crystal light pack

A recap of the work done:
- New wing, fitted and srayed,
- Front bumper repaired and sprayed,
- Back bumper repaired and sprayed,
- Both rear arches de-rusted and sprayed - which looks as though its been 100% properly,
- Scuff on the passenger side polished out**

Thanks guys.
All the work was quite expensive as i wanted it done to a high standard, it was over four figures, quite a bit over. Oh well....
In essence its the missus daily as i've got a new shape civic for work, so she's back behind the wheel. I didn't want her to be scared of it, it was a moment of concentration lapse i guess.

Bit of an update:
I gave the calipers a bit of a refresh, whipped around the arches too, just to get the heavy stuff off, not really a detail.
Before:
After:
Look much better behind the wheels now. The lettering was bloody awkward with the brush i had! Anyway....they look better.
Picture ***** time after a quick clean.
OEM stickers on next me thinks and then a wheel refurb.

Hi
Yeah i've order the kit from the RBOC and have it here beside me
Just need the bodyshop to sort the n/s wing (again) FOC and wait for all this rain to stop so i can stick them on.
I really am an enthusiast so hopefully making it to some shows. I'll be at the RB day on the 25th at prodrive.

Hi mate,
Nice RB5 you got, shame your missus gave her a battering lol (Thats what they do).
Strange that i am also Dan Clark and have a very similar car just now to your first one.
My wife also battered my car this month but was my other one Audi (so not too bad lol).
Keep us posted on your RB5 will be looking for one shortly (cant decide between a V7 STI or RB5) V7 would mean the wife would have to drive it
All the best

Yep the fog light covers will be going back on soon.
Hello fellow Dan
I want to wrap my scooby in cotton wool now so she can't damage it again.
Definately get an RB5, its nice to have something thats a limited edition.
Its off to the bodyshop again today, i want the bodyshop to sort a few things out (i.e. the passenger wing that they slightly burnt through), lets hope their after sales is as good as eh!
Thanks all for the comments. More updates to follow shortly.

Thanks!!!
Well i can scrap the idea of getting it back to the bodyshop today. They are playing silly buggers and i have to wait until the owner is back from hols (next week). Really pee'd me off especially as i've spent some serious dough with them.
I'm sure i'll get it sorted next week.

Bit of a random update.
Had a spare 20mins after dinner so i made a start on the engine bay, totally pointless task as so many brackets need refinishing and the inlet needs a real good going over and that will only happen if i get it off. Anyway its looking a bit better:
My samco's
The original colour RB Sticker is now back too, before:
After
Got the stickers for the wings too, but i'll leave those until the bodyshop pull their finger out.
And also a totally random shot of the exhaust. I'm working this little by little with the aim of the whole system and the inner being 100% bling.
