Default 1996 wrx loom in a sti version 3?

might sound silly but my mate has a version 3 type r and asked me if i could find out for him if this was possible...he wants to change the loom hes currently got to a 1996 wrx loom as he wants to put a z4 ecu...
yes i no iv told him to just get a stand alone ecu as standard ecu cant get mapped...hes going for the cheaper option if its possible?

'96 loom should also be a 3 plug ecu, you need '95 and older loom to use a 4 plug Z4. Its not worth changing it, as most of the car has to come apart. The Z4 has its limitations aswell.
The other thing is, you will have problems with the DCCD wiring aswell, as its part of the main loom.
