Imprezas Rule @ Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb 4th May
Sunday (practice) was excellent (sunny and cool) as it was first time out since the end of September for the RA, and after a 7 month “lay off” car was on the button from the word go.
2/10ths of a second off my personal best time (34.22) and managed 3 runs without incident.
Bank Holiday Monday – weather was dreadful, and at 8:30 a.m. it was touch and go whether any cars would run. However, we are made of strong stuff and the meeting commenced in slightly better conditions at 9:30 a.m.
Shame to see 5 cars heavily damaged with some big "offs" on the straight leading to Bottom S Bend.
Impreza performed supberbly, and did not miss a beat over the 2 days, and we managed a 38.48 in the wet on the first run which put me us in class (class made up of all sorts of cars and driver combinations – 10 in all).
Second run was 36.41 – so we came away with a class win.
To say I am “pleased” is an understatement.
Geoff Twemlow took class win in "Modified Limited Production Saloon Cars over 2000cc Class" with a 34.50 second run.
Great to see 15 year old Imprezas still "mixing it"!
PHOTOGRAPHS
Fortunately, not many of me/my car - but some very varied cars including Jim Gazey's SMART car fitted with a 2 litre Toyota MR2 engine.
The SMART can car pull wheelies off the start line

Great stuff Richard. Congratulations to Geoff on a class win too.
I wanted to come along, but spent the day installing loft boards instead... (sigh)
Fantastic photos.
Cheers,
Rich.
