Smile Track days in UK

How much does it cost to do a track day in the uk? Where are the best ones? Are any as good and as accessable as Nurburgring?

How necessary is it to upgrade things? e.g. brakes, tires, suspension etc.

Cost varies but budget £150 - £200 for a circuit track day.

I've found Brands Hatch to be the best for me, it's close to where I live and has enough challenging corners to not get bored with it. Depends where you live and what sort of track driving you like to do. Cadwell is superb but narrow whereas Silverstone is not my cup of tea. If you head over to Pistonheads there's a good Track Day forum. Also browse Youtube for track day circuit guides , loads to look at and get you thinking.

Brakes definately need to be in good condition, fresh fluid and some decent fast road or track pads will help things no end. Tyres, I use normal road tyres but there are plenty of semi slick road legal track tyres you can buy.
Suspension , same again. Standard is ok but uprated better - all depends on your budget and how often you intend to do track days.

I've done the Nurburgring 3 years now and there is nothing to compare with it over here.

I'd say £600 total but lap tickets and petrol while you're there can add a lot to this as it's very addictive!

I wondered

For a very cheap and relatively save introduction to track driving you could do much worse than come along to the WYIOC trackday at Blyton Park on August 16th.

If its your first experience I suggest an airfield, although its not as glam as a proper circuit its a lot easier to start off with. I was at Silverstone a couple of weeks ago as a guest and due to timetable you ended up out at the same time as GT Porsche racing cars being driven by professional drivers - not fun!! Pick a day which has novices only.

As for set up, a second set of wheels and tyres is a good option with part worn tyres - new tyres can over heat due to the tread blocks moving around. A harness makes things more comfortable. Don't leave your handbrake on after a lap and know where your nearest petrol station is, I managed 8mpg in a 2 litre alfa so I don't think a scoob will be very good...
