Default my car after a paint n a polish

hey guys here are some pics of my car, i've had it for 3 weeks now, i was originally tuned by a member of sidc.

heres the spec:

SUBARU IMPREZA UK 2000 TURBO:

390 bhp with 352 lb/ft torque-
APS SR40 Ballbearing hybrid turbo-
apexi fc commander ecu-
HKS turbo timer-
STI rebuild STI ported heads and cams-
ty754 refurbed gear-
walbro fuel pump -
nismo injectors -
stainless head gaskets & rocker cover gaskets -
Autobahn88 front mounted intercooler-
gas flowed downpipe -
kakumei gt spec tubular manifold and up-pipe-
Cobra 3" exhaust system -
forge 007p dv with shimmed yellow spring-
silicone hose kit -
Diamond power clutch and machined ultralight flywheel-
mintex extreme 1144 pads-
full sti kit -
p1 lip spoiler

when i got the car it had been a little niglected by the middle owner, so it got a fresh lot of oil through out the car, the body had seen some shabby paint too and had a little rust coming through, but with a sound engine i was fine as i paint for a living, with in a week the annoying paint got ontop of me and i painted it lol so it went from this:

to this:

its had a full hand wet sand, and then a few buffs, going through the grades of polishes up to glaze and then finally a wax, i used the new autoglym hd wax, i must say im impressed and im a meguirs man through and through

heres the engine, im too scared to power wash it so im doing the bits by hand, i took the ic pipes off and machined them, added a few polished bits and gave it a genral clean

only thing that now spoils the car is the none genuine boot spoiler, its the worlds worst replica lol

cheers for looking

jake

productivde day today,

got the car masked up and into the booth for paint, about 2 litres of base and 3 litres of clear later oh and 3hrs, and the car was done.

while it was cooling, i set about prepping the bits like bumpers, handles spoilers etc. then they went into the booth too,

with the spoiler being fibrglass i dint bake these so there air drying.

while they were drying i decided to flat the car for polishing, wet flat by hand with 2000 paper, followed by 3000 trizact pad on a dual air sander, tommorow is polishing and possibly a bit of building too.

Bit of a thread hijack, hope you don't mind. My RB5 is in for some bodywork repairs (thanks to the pensioner who pulled out into the side of it!) Nothing too drastic, new rear nearside door and repair to wheel arch and rear wing/bumper. Was due to get it back today but I'm now informed that they are having trouble matching the colour and the paint manufacturer is due to come in and help. Any ideas as to what may be going wrong as your in the trade. It's an insurance approved place so reputable as far as I know...

Yours looks stunning by the way! Hope mine comes back looking as good (having the bonnet and bumper done while it's there to sort out the stone chips). Also, was that an old Marin full suss bike in the background of one of the pics?

Man i would pay you good money to get my car in that condition. Really great job you have done here

Ive just recently purchased a 96 wrx import and have the same problem. The interior is mint as is the engine but the paint is not so good, needs a good t-cut to get the bland patches back.

Cool car man, very impressive

cheers guy's ill start at the top lol:

marin depending on there paint company - if there ins approved its likely there now on water based systems. they might not have a good shade of the colour ie too dark too light, the paint company comes in with a camera that scans the paint and will pick a shade- were lucky we bought the camera too lol

the bike is a marin alpine trail 05

as for bonnet, if there doing it for chips make sure they blend the wings for colour.

wrx- was three full single coats haha used a litre a time, as i pi$$ed it on haha

wrighty- its an sti engine with hybrid turbo

beef- any colour now is pretty much clear over base, so if you car came in like mine ie dented to hell haha you'd be looking at £1500

exvaux- once painted your left with a 'gun finish' this will not be totally flat and will have a few bits in it, tbh there were about 6 as i wet the booth floors.
so your next step is to snd the clear smooth to get it like glass, thats flat finish is the result

Cuprajake - cheers for the info on the paint - I guess so long as it comes out looking right I don't mind waiting. On the bikes side of things - is the Marin yours? I have had various Marin full sussers and now have a Cove Hustler that is a real dream to ride...
