More air over I/C. Classics were known for having a design fault with airflow with the standard scoop.

i can understand it from a performance point of view, but I must admit it looks awful. No offence, but I'm not a fan.

thanks for the replies
yes it's a dr motorsport jobbie (brill paint/finish)
i've put it on to try to get the knock level down @ high speed
running apexi pc & water injection but still getting knock @ 130+ with booster
had it mapped twice now !!
0-100 no knock, then on a motoway 130+ was up to 70% knock on the read out
not tried it out yet , mabe next weekend
thank's chris

Would also recommend a few other things mate!! (if not already done)

Get a tilt kit fitted to the I/C .... have a look at http://www.rb5oc.co.uk/tiltkit.pdf (im assuming its a post MY96 car you have) .... PM me if you cant find the bits to do this.

Fit a I/C air splitter as well .... loads on eBay (do a search for "subaru intercooler splitter") .... this can be altered with spacers as well, to suit the higher scoop.

Last (and probably the hardest .... ive done it with mine) .... youve probably noticed the inside of the scoop isnt as aerodynamic as it could be .... huge lip at the rear. I got a sheet of metal from Homebase (cost about a tenner) and "made" an inner section for my scoop, giving a cleaner air flow into the I/C .... b*gger of a job but worth doing!!

Cant fault DR Motorsport!!

STi 8 scoop, P1 lip, 22B vents and P1 spot light covers!!

Geez no offence, matter of opinion n all that, but it looks ridiculous, as it does on your rb5.

I have a larger scoop, not the STi8 but a biggy from DR Motorsport. I smoothed the airflow using Ducktape. It's worked perfectly and is a very neat solution.

I used Ducktape around the edges of the inner section I made to seal it .... does work a treat, dont know if I could have done the whole thing with Ducktape though!?

Unfortunately i don't like that at all. It gives myself and im sure also the general public an impression of the driver being some what of a "boy racer"... regardless of your driving skills.

These big scoops only seem two achieve two things:
1 Increase drag thus slowing you down
2 Create front end lift reducing grip
Its also nice to see people doing 130 on a public road and still have time to concentrate on what % their knock link is reading
Makes you glad you don't own an Impreza any more
