Default Bedford Track day 20.10.2004

I am still a bit new to this photgraphy lark, so the images are not perfect by a long way, but an improvement over my Donington ones. See the link below for the pictures.

http://dmalings.fotopic.net/c327096.html

The day started off very foggy and cleared in to a nice sunny day by the afternoon. As well as taking a few pics, I was taking a few pax laps in CraigH and Ian's Westfield XTR4 things.....blimey, I honestly think it was the fastest thing there!.....£30k anyone?

Full size images available on request.

For an idea of the quality and size of a full size image, have a look at the Carrera GT img_4380.

Dave

As Craig and Ian took me out as well (cheers fellas) I think I agree with you Dave in saying I think the Westy was the fastest car there and that includes a certain car which cost £303,000 more ......It was also nice see the porsche / lotus drivers paying it loads of respect by moving out of the way. No snobbery there....a well driven excellent track day.

Cheers for snapping away guys. Glad you enjoyed the PAX laps.

Really looking forward to seeing those photos and the bullet cam footage we did.

The '4 is a stunning car for the money - as you say - bang per buck is very good compared to some of the exotica filling up the pits yesterday. Certain cars starting with G and ending in 3 were shockingly easy to pass - the westi and its downforce really comes into effect in the end 1/3 of the circuit. Its by far the most technical and most fun. Its also a really good feeling knowing we've done all of this without the safety of an electronic stability program and abs.

I totally agree with everyones comments yesterday. There is a lot more to come from both the car in terms of geometry and us in terms of ability. Out of the box its pretty damn quick. I think we did pretty good considering we haven't driven it for 7 weeks.

Seems like the '4 will be hibernating for winter now (boo!) ... but at least there is RWD tom foolery to be had in my AE86 which is probably going to dono next sat for its maiden outing on track. I just need to make sure I can drive it in a straight line - which is something it seems to have problems with

I know the one CTR ......... was watching you most of the day mate. Glad to see you were enjoying yourself and that non of the marshalls took offence at your enthusiastic driving style ............ which by the way looked very safe, you didnt play when there was traffic around you, good man.

I have a bit of footage of you i'm sure

He he, I was getting thumbs ups from some of the marshalls. It was fun. They seem pretty happy to let you goon, as long as you dont do it with people directly behind you.

Excellent, ta

take into account consumables.

Those tyres have done a total of 2.3k miles, and 6 trackdays - and are still fine. Same with disks/pads etc. That's where you REALLY notice the difference between a light car and road cars...

The car looks great Ian/Craig.

Craig hit the nail on the head, having a lightweight car, apart from being much quicker, drops your costs substantially when you are doing trackdays unless you can find some bargains on brake pads and tyres, it makes a lot of sense to run two sets of wheels/tyres with an Impreza and just throw a set of part worns on for track fun. It works out much cheaper in the longrun buying a set of large brakes as the disks/pads last a lot longer on a heavy car like the Impreza. The newage STi with OEM brembos is much better in this respect than the Classic.

When you up the power in the beasty you'll eat those ACB10 rears much faster, mine used to last 2 trackdays where the fronts would last maybe 12.

I doubt it'll be that bad - we've got the engine/gearbox almost over the rear wheels, which obviously helps traction a lot

I am particulary keen on the first 2 pics, a nice bit of side ways action, including leaving some rubber on the road!

Photos are looking real good

Can't wait to see Mr. Pugs video work.

I think the bullet cam stuff should be good too - providing that damn lense didn't steam up and it wasn't vibrating like hell. I think the nose cam stuff will give a really good impression of the speed.
