Yep, red rears too

Thanks for the kind comments, the black aero guards aren't standard (free goody from dealer ... well part of deal) and I think my blue momo gearknob finishes it off.

Seriously impressed so far, if the interior can remain rattle and scratch free it really is getting up there with VW's for interiors ..

I understand why you blanked your own plate, but I reckon the chap who owns the Merc behind you would have appreciated you blanking his plate too!

The new interior + steering wheel will have to grow on me I'm afraid, looks very silvery at the moment but I suspect that was the flash bouncing back at the camera.

Everything else looks just like how a new car should, nice & clean

P.S Where is your bootlock?

Merc driver is an a**e, always drives up your chuff even though there are sleeping policeman on the street ...... so b'lox to him

I had no choise in colour as 'that's the one they had in' and the one I could get a great deal on .... it is growing on me. Wasn't sure about it as it's undoubtedly the most common colour and I'd have had a red/white one first .. honest.

To anser Danny B, yep there's a lot of flash on the console but it is quite silvery (is there such a word) but it does not look cheap (well to me). Dad has an Audi A4 and said that he was impressed with interior ..

It doesn't have a rear boot lock as it's a wagon ... MY00 didn't either AFAIK only saloons have boot locks ?

lol - nuff said.

is the bootlock on wagons linked to the remote locking then?, MY98 wagon has one, but no remote locking?...

In addition - are you very, very, very, very happy?

Hmmmm, I've have an MY00 and now the MY05. The 'boot' is open when the doors are open. Don't remember either having an external lock as such. Not sure if it 'locks' whilst on the move?

As you guessed it's all linked to the remote central locking (which my MY00 had as well). Plip the button and all doors/boot is open, plip again and all locked

pablohunny,

It's OK ... I had a 210 watt Bose Sound system in my Audi Quattro A4 (2 cars ago) so that kind of re-arranged my perception of car stereo's. I changed the stereo in my MY00 to a Pioneer head-unit and some Infinity speakers in the front so that's what I can compare it too most recently.

I play a great Charlatans track from Up to Our Hips (Patrol) to try out the front speakers and they will distort relatively easily so if you're used to great speakers + subs etc you'll be disappointed ..

However it's a massive step up from the standard one in the MY00. It'll do me fine and sounds OK at a reasonable volume over and above road noise.

Is that what you were looking for?

Avalyn your car looks the mutts.

Really pleasing to see nice pictures of the MY05 in the flesh after all we've read about it these past few weeks.

What made you decide to get a five door? We've got a sixteen month old boy and another baby due in February - for the last couple of days the thought of getting a 5 door for pram-sized practical reasons, when before I'd always thought 4 door!!!

Have you had a 5 door before? I've been told there's little or no handling difference, I take it there's some truth in this?

All the best, DBB.

Good stuff

You can set the alarm to lock the doors when you turn the ignition on - it's in the manual. Worth doing with all tha carjacking stories around at the moment.

A five door is, IMHO, a hell of a lot more practical than the saloon. Get a dog guard, even if you don't have a dog, and just keep on loading stuff into the boot ... With our now one year old son, it's been invaluable to have more load space.

Handling on the 5 is much the same as the saloon. The wagon does not have the wider track of the saloon, but IMHO that's no great loss in the real world. Plus it hasn't quite got the same boy racer image, although up north if you come across David Wallis or P20SPD you may doubt that

All looks very nice and totally gleaming - look at those tyres

I must say I am very disappointed by the steering wheel - it does the interior no justice - way prefer the one in my 2003/2004 WRX with the MOMO centre badge.

Stereo looks the same as the MY03/04 so will no doubt prove to be as B*llsh*t as ever.

Also - lost the place to put my Origin B2 at the ashtray

All the very best with the car - hope you enjoy it. Just bin the twin pipes

P.S. Where are the electric mirror controls now?

Thanks Andy - the doors do look much better now - just a touch here or there makes all the difference.

Very nice...getting my 4dr Weds I hope (same colour!). Can't wait, it's my first!

I have to agree about the steering wheel though, a bit of a let down, a Momo centre badge would have looked better!

The back box has to go too, but then it would have sooner or later anyhow.

All in all though it looks better inside (not too difficult) and the suspension mods etc should be interesting.

Cheers for the pics!

Great car mate! Enjoy. Of course, those peashooters have to go! H&S perhaps?

With respect, I'm not sure about that gear ****....doesn't seem particularly cohesive against the rest of the interior. Wouldn't a brushed metal one look better. Small detail though and down to personal taste!

Best.

Thanks for all the comments folks (well most of them )

I hummed and haaaad about the colour of the gearknob. The pictures make it look a bit out of place but when you see the whole car i.e. can see WR Blue exterior the gearknob (in my opinion anway) looks

A little surprised about the steering wheel comments. It's very nice to hold and although the plastic centre is a bit more plasticky than the momo item it defo a better quality. I've had another look at the picture and it's much better than it suggests as is the centre console, it nowhere near as 'silver' as my poor picture

As chiark said the handling is much the same on the wagon as the saloon. TBH I'm pretty sure you'd need to be a driving god to tell the difference. I had not driven an MY03> before so I've no idea what difference the new inverted struts make. All I can say is compared to my MY00 the handling is in a different league, seriously

Agree with the pea shooter comments but they'll likely stay until I can afford PPP unless I can pick up a very cheap STi BB.

As for why did I buy a wagon? Lots of reasons, I have a young family and it's much more practicle for prams/buggys/boxes etc, I had fridges/freezers and washing machines in my last MY00. Granted the saloon has as much space with the backseats down but it's nowhere near as useable .. anything with any sort of height and it wont even go in the opening ...

Main reasons for a wagon though, performance difference between the 2 ... not enough to worry about, some say the wagon handles better because of the weight distribution, ooooh about 0.3 seconds to 100

Barry boys tend not to bother you in a wagon, to my eyes it's the better looking car

The just something cool about a superheated estate (RS4, T5-R etc) ... it suggests your not too bothered about image and what people think, you drive it because of the way it drives ..

I like that logic a lot - there's something seriously mean about the RS4 and the RS6 avants - and I hadn't thought about the 5-door WRX in the same light, but I hear what you're saying...

F*ck I'm totally undecided now!

Ok so it maybe doesn't have quite the same prestige associated with it as a big Audi BUT .... this may help your decision park up 2 cars next to each other ...

1. WRX Blue Saloon + PPP + 18's + Prodrive spring kit
2. WRX Blue Wagon + PPP + 18's + Prodrive spring kit

Maybe it's just me but one just oooozes cool and the other looks a bit too bling

If you want my MY02 Sti back box and headers, etc, (whatever they take off for PPP), you can have them v. cheap. Don't know how much of it will fit though.

Car looks great BTW.
