Default Blue light dash conversion

Just to let all you boys up here see what I have been doing this week.

Sorry for the pants quality but here goes.
I had to play with the brightness and contrast so you can see it clearlyish.

So what do you think of the red light at the red line ?

The Center but this picture has not come out well at all (still need to do the clock)

What do you think guys ?

Ian

AvalancheS8 - Thanks - not a big job at all once you know what you are doing depends on which MY you have mine is MY97 I could do the instruments in about 20 - 30 mins and the centre console about the same again

Liamdela - I think the MY94 is the same as an early MY97 (mine) so see above it is a piece of pi55.

If you need some advice give me a shout I will help if I can

Ian

Looks sweet mate - I've got a MY01 UK300 with a couple of indigo blue pods so I was looking into this to be done on mine.

Do you know if you can do it on the Bugeyes?

I believe you can do it on a bugeye. I think they take the smaller 5mm LEDs though. It does look really good when done and it really matches the indiglo gauges well.

Nice one, my car is a '97 as well, any hints and tips you'd care to share (PM if you like) would be excellent. What are you planning to do with the clock ?

FragaL - where you based if near me no bother I could give you a hand

AvalancheS8 - Here we go.

For Instrument Cluster.

1. Remove surround from instruments (4 screws 2 on bottom 2 at the top)

2. Unplug switches from Behind 6 in total.

3. Remove top bit of cowl on steering column (2 rear screws underneath)

4. Undo screws holding in instruments (4 screws 2 bottom 2 top)

5. Tilt the cluster forward from the top and wiggle the left hand side out.

6. You only need to get it out far enough to undo a connecter on the back on the left once you can do this disconnect it. You will then be able to pull the left hand side of the instruments out a little further.

7. You will then be able to change the 3 bulbs on the left hand side of the instruments. Reconnect the connecter to the back of the instruments and test the lights are working. If you are using LEDs and they don't light remove the led turn through 180 degrees and replace and retest. You will need to disconnect the connector block to get to the bulbs and reconnect each time to test the bulbs.

8. When all are working push left hand side in and repeat on the right hand side for the 3 bulbs on the right.

9. Then replace the instruments and screw in. Replace cowl and fix in place. Then replace the surround and plug in electrical connectors.

Job Done looks the dogs danglies more to come . . . . . .

These are 10mm leds by the way

Nice explanation mate - will be printing that off methinks - MY00 can't be too different.

Don't suppose anyones ever tried changing colour on a Defi guage...

For the centre console

1. Push from the bottom of the surround and it kind of slides up and pops off.

2. The heater control unit is then loose IIRC there may be a screw or two. However you will not be able to pull it out.

3. Underneath the glovebox in the passenger footwell you will see a black wire / cable that you will see move if you move the recirculate fresh air slider or the directional air dial (can't remember which). Now where you see this connect to the unit in the footwell you will see a wire connector. Pull this off so the wire is free.

4. You will see the same kind of connector in the drivers footwell tucked well under. I think this one moves with the temp dial IIRC. Again you need to disconnect this too.

5. Then you will be able to gain access to the rear of the unit to change the LEDs. Then replace unit reconnect Cables in the footwells and put back together.

RE the clock, I am working on that on as it is a LCD, I will keep you informed.

PG = to55er

Messiah - I used

5 no (501) Wide angle Blue LED
1 no (501) Wide angle Red LED if not using for the redline you will need 6 of the blue
3 no (286) Dash board slim wedge bulb (I bought 5 of these)

I do need to get two smaller ones for the headlamp adjuster still.

Remember this is for an MY97.

Anyone any ideas for the clock ?
