These Are the Light Tints on My 01 WRX , Do not think that these are legal tho Subaru glass is Marked with a Stamp AS2 I Think, This means that the glass is Already tinted & Any film applied how ever Light will be Illegal

Messiah, to answer your question. If you tint your front wondows on a Scoob they will be illegal. Tint on a standard car is about 28% hence it lets through 72% light so you can see that there is only 2% left. I removed mine about 4 months ago when all this started, better to be safe than sorry

do tinting companies do a test to see if the tints they're fitting still give the required transmittance?

As of 1ST January 2004, Section 32 Of the UK Construction and Use Regulations for road vehicles were changed to include the application of tinted film to windows. It makes the application to any film which reduces the visible light transmission of windows below 70% in front of the "B" Pillar illegal. This change in the regulations may render the owner/driver or anyone selling such a vehicle whose windows as described above having a visible light transmission below 70% liable to prosecution or have a removal notice issued by the police or V.O.S.A.

my mate got his windows done on his nissan x trail - he got a receipt for the rear windows but had to pay cash for front and no receipt.
I want to have my windows tinted but still want to keep the cra legal - esp. if points are involved if police take objection. I could just get the rears done but I think it looks daft if the fronts don't match up.

I had my front tints removed, not cause I was worried about getting pulled (they've got bigger fish to fry in W. Cumbria) but because my insurance co. said the car was unroadworthy and so the insurance was void.
As someone has already said, most modern car glass has a tint in anyway, so even a light tint film will render the car illegal.
I don't think mine looks to bad with just the rears done as the fronts are quite dark to start off with.
