The best description I can find for the drop link (or sway bar link as they are sometimes called) was from Scoobymania
"Scooby Mania is constantly looking for new products to improve your car. One recent discovery is the replacement anti roll bar link. It works like this: anti roll bar links control cornering 'roll' by pushing back on the suspension control arm when the vehicle starts to lean under the effect of cornering forces. The controlling force is fed into the suspension via the anti roll bar links.
On Subaru models such as the Impreza, /Legacy/Outback these links are made from a rigid plastic, and bushed in soft rubber. The replacement link is made of steel and uses low tolerance polyurethane bushes.
The OE link is a compromised design, a largely unsuccessful attempt to blend low cost, the ability to transfer force and low NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) into one component. In particular the OE bar does not transmit force in a linear fashion as cornering speeds rise. Instead it deforms, bending and stretching which makes the output suspension movement far less predictable.
The new steel links transmit force with much more precision, greatly improving the 'predictability' of the car's handling under fierce cornering conditions.
One might expect this part to increase perceived NVH in the cabin, but this is not really the case. As noted below, STi models have a similar part fitted as standard, and no one has complained about the increased cabin noise in an STi!"

I'm glad that your car can be repaired rather than just written off! Good luck with it and I hope all goes well!
I guess we'll see you at the July meet then!
I have a feeling that mine really won't be ready until later on in the year, but this time I want to take my time with it and not rush the modifications I have planned (that aren't listed above! )

Andy,
Yes mate, needs must and all that, I know what will happen if I keep it, i.e. I'll keep spending money when its really not worth it imo - the temptation is too strong lol

It needs some minor bodywork (parking dents, a couple of scuffs and some colour coding) and the mileage is a little high, but a lovely car!
