DazV,
You write computer games ? I ask, because, guess what, I do too !
Yeah, I know, sad, but I'm in the office at 10.30 on a Thursday night, trying to persuade an XBox to do what it's told to ...

Paul, I'm not a pro like you. I just do it in my spare time for a hobby.
I own an IT Company during my working hours (snore!) Oracle, ASP, CFM, that kind of boring stuff.
Wrote SuperSprint for the Amiga back in the days of Yore when I was a nipper, but never finished the track design. Remember the SEKA Assembler for 68000 CPU ? Ah, those were the days.

DazV,
Trust me, I wish I'd gone into business software - computer games are so badly managed, it's amazing we ever get anything finished. After 17 years of it, I'm fed up to the back teeth with it !
And as for the 68000 .... ! Back in the days when i started, a Z80 was as good as it got !

God,
On paper, it nails everything out there. Its another matter what its like in practice. I'd ask Paul about that.
What it needs is some seriously good games, but the more powerful the longer the development period is for the games. I doubt you'd see any great games for it until a year after release - a similar situation to the PS2.

Yeah, other than the case design, which sucks big time, the XBox would seem to be the best kit for now. Now that Sega are sensibly concentrating on writing games rather than trying to compete in the loss making hardware biz I hope that the games world will become a richer place for everyone.
They do need to produce USB versions of their peripherals though - the maracas in Samba de Amigo are so cool! Fishing rod is a blast too. With the volumes available when addressing a larger market they may actually be able to make some money on it at last!
If Nintendo would also realise that competing on hardware specs is a mugs game and roll over and let Bill tickle their belly like the rest of us then we could finally have a central platform with the very best games in the world on it. As it stands to play GT3 I will need to buy a PS2, even though 99% of the rest of the games for PS2 are ****e. Like I recently had to buy a N64 so I could play Zelda in a usable way (emulators can only go so far!) and I bought a Dreamcast to play F355 (still one of the finest racing games available)
