Damn, I loved this car, but regardless of how beautifully she drove and what I did to her, she never quite got over the previous owner dinging her quite badly...
Here's where I really made the changes. Not all of the normal ones that you might expect either. Spec as follows......
1.6 16v Engine with 120bhp as standard. Redlines @7200 RPM
K&N 57i Induction Kit With cold air porting from 3 points
Magnex SS Full Exhaust System w/o CAT
Racelogic Cockpit Adjustable Traction Control (Off, 25%,20%,15%,10%,5%)
Racelogic Alterpower Intelligent Alternator Cut-Off
0-60 Tested Standard 0-60: 7.2 secs
My beast: Tested 0-60 6.0 secs with Driver+Passenger
145mph Tested top speed on speedo @ just below limiter
139bhp@flywheel with only 12% loss through to the wheels
The key to the increased 0-60 is the TC. GTI's have a fair bit of torque,
with little weight to keep the front wheels glued, so spinout
was quite common upon maximum takeoff attempts. TC doesn't just aid
takeoff, but every part of driving fast, well and safely.
It greatly improved the car, made her quicker, more fun and safer to boot!
Really worth looking at. The Alterpower device also worked very well and you really could tell when it was doing it's stuff!
I just wish I could have kept her for the loved one. I would still love a blat in her!!
