and they only lasted 5 miles
Not quite that bad! 5k miles.

I have now done 80k Impreza miles on a variety of pads (standard, EBC Greens, Mintex 1155, EBC Reds, Pagid RS42s) and I still reckon the reds are pants. YMMV etc. All were fitted by reputable Scooby specialists -- Mintex (squealy) and Reds (not squealy) by the same people!

RON,

You fit spacers and larger pads this enables you to use the same 4 pots with the new discs.

I thought they were downright dangerous until they bedded in (1200 miles, IME). Then they were OK for about 5k miles. Then they were knackered

Got Pagid RS42s now which were much better out of the box than the EBCs were once bedded in, and have improved since. Only downside is they are squealy and dusty (though I believe the RS42-1s that Scoobysport sells don't suffer from the squealy problem).

Brakes squeal due to the fitting!! Its not due to the discs or pad design!!!
And i bet when you got them fitted, you/they used old squeal plates.
If it takes 1200 to bed in than the discs wasnt prepared properly before fitting.
I know of lots of people who are using EBC for their race cars with no apparant problems, so if it took you that long to bed in and they only lasted 5 miles, i suggest you go back to the fitter and give him slap!!!!!!
Bedding in any brakes takes around 200-500 miles. That also goes with Pagids!!!!!

done just under 400 miles now and they are gripping well now

give it an other 100 or so miles and i will give em a harder time!!!

its so hard driving slow, i leave a nice big gap in front of me to allow braking distance and some b'stard always decides to squeeze in
