This weekend the wheels were off again, and with my hand as steady as poss after two HEAVY nights on the beer for my b'day here is the finished result:
Well happy now, just finished it off a treat

Hi Dan
It really wasn't too hard but the trick is really you have to go slowly and take your time, don't rush it!!!! Start at the top and outside edge first and that enables you to rest your hand on the calliper for further support.
I sanded (fine paper) off the red calliper paint to give the new stuff something to key into.
I used hammerite paint from halfords (smallest tub was a fiver!! ) and used hardly any of it lol - still its there for the future!!!
Painted on - touch dry in an hour, another coat and job done. I used an artists fine paint brush to do it with.
Hope thats the sort of info you were after

Neil they look . Well done mate, and especially after two nights of heavy drinking!
Now you just need to concentrate your efforts to Project Gotham Racing, and your new steering wheel!

Max (oops Neil ) I'll just leave that to you
I suppose these brakes won't be getting a public airing all that often if you are going to sit there playing on your XBOX all of the time now!

Hiya dude,
Did mine about a year ago with the Halfords stuff and it's still there
I was going to do the lettering but i just kept finding better things to do (More pub time ) Anyways, a year on and what has happened is that the brake dust has collected against the leading edge od the raised lettering and it pronounces the lettering from the red calliper really well, sort of mega 3-d if you know what I mean
Anyways, great job
Mikey

Dead easy way to do the raised lettering is with a small 1" roller just roll across the top of the lettering
PS.I did it the hard way with a brush, but did another set with the roller, halfed the job time

Is smooth hammerite really OK to use on this job?
Have used Foilatech b4 and it comes with cleaning agent and hardener.
Thing is I can get similar smooth 'hammerite type' products from independant manufacturer and will cost me only £3-4 for both red and white!!

they are nice like that but don't they look crap when they get brake dust on them? Mine looked real nice until a week later when they were black again with a tinge of red!
But when clean looks a treat!

ScoobyJawa and anyone else who has done the wicked red caliper and white lettering thing!:
two questions if I may:
1.) did you need to take the calipers off to paint them? I wouldn't be that confident about putting them back properly after!
2.) can you also use the same type of paint (not red obviously) to cover up and protect the rust marks on the actual inner drum of the disk (not a great description I know but I hope you can figure out what I mean - the bit the wheel nuts come out of!!)
cheers

No I left the callipers on to paint mine, its a bit tricky to get round the back - more so at the front, but if you put the steering on full lock it makes access easier. You could remove them and do it but I couldn't be bothered messing around with the brake hoses and fluid etc.... (read lazy )
You probably could use the same paint for the hub part of the disk (and I had plenty of paint left), although not sure how it would look? It may flake on such a smooth surface to???
BTW - My lettering is done in silver hammerite think it looks better than lairy white lol!!!
