Prodrive Impreza called Roo
Hello Everyone
I have myself a nice new to me 2005 ProDrive Impreza.
It could be a UK300 but i am unsure of that.
I have a number of simple plans for it for now. But it has had a decent lot of work already done on it to get it running great..... i hope. So the main plan is to enjoy it as much as possible.
It has been a dream of mine fo 20 years to own a subaru and its so mega exciting to finally be driving one.
My Plans
1. Full checkup with ScoobyClinic asap.
2. Fit Android 10 double din
3. STI gear surround?
4. Get OBD2 reader for live data to double din
5. Spray silver dash bits with something that is not silver
6. Fit 3 Gauge pod with a) Boost b) oil temp c) afr or oil pressure?
Base Spec of the car
- EJ20 Engine rebuilt by Wilks Engines completely including acl bearings, uprated head gaskets, new 11mm oil pump, oil cooler, timing belt kit and water pump, thermostat.
- Exedy clutch kit
- NGK BKR7 spark plugs
- Heat wrapped sti up pipe
- Tein lowering springs
- New rear shocks and track rod ends
- Walbro 350 fuel pump
- K&N panel filter
- Viper turbo intake hose
The car has also been re-mapped by Scooby clinic and produced 264bhp on a safe map

Update 1
I love driving this car !!
Update 2 - double din install
I took the dash appart and removed the old 1990's stereo. As much as i appreciate the tape player its a bit useless.
moved the brackets from old stereo to my new apparently standard double din! And screwed back in
then tried to fit centre console back on and realised the double din is bigger by about 3mm each side than the hole for the double din stereo
Now some of you may curse me and petition to kick me out the forum but ...... next i got the dremmel out and started shaving the centre console out to make the hole bigger... (theres absolutely a joke there somwhere
Now my first pass just to get stereo in is not too shabby considering i just went for it on eye alone. It has a removable black surround that i will use for now.
Next job - get the lines nicely sanded down and straightened and spray a decent colour. Or a lary colour ?

On your other thread did you say that you didn't use the standard double din cage/bracket that comes with the car. That normally lines up aftermarket double din headunits. A bit too late now
But having said that many aftermarket headunits although double din fit differently with the front shape if that makes sense. What headunit are you using, looks decent.

I used the same cage the original stereo was in. Just unbolted it and bolted it to the new one.
The double din hole in the actual console just too small by 2mm each side.
So i figured i would take it just to the edges of the console.
Using the below headunit
I wanted android 10, with new PX6 cpu, and 4Gb ram, google maps\tomtom and easy music
I am hoping one of the obd2 adapters i have gives me some live data to Torque Pro

That seems to be the top spec for all the latest headunits
If you are running an android phone I came across an app that lets you use android auto if you prefer that. It should work wirelessly too.

Update 3 - Health Check
So just back from ScoobyClinic and wow what an awesome place. So cool to see so many amazing cars. Staff and techs so friendly and knowledgable. I learned so much in the 3 hrs i was there!
Car has a clean bill of health. No rust, no issues. Could do with the headgaskets doing in the next year but not an issue.
They confirmed engine is healthy, brakes all ok, suspention good it is A WRX300 prodrive, but now mapped by them.
So happy all is well with it. Time to start makig plans!!
Aaaaand as if by luck the sky decided to open and give me an inch or so of snow while i was there so the drive back was ..... interesting.

Ah! As I mentioned on the other thread, the O.E. Japanese stereos are all bezel free, so are designed to sit behind the panel not slide through it like European head units. Thus a suitable aftermarket head unit will have a removeable bezel. There are a series of holes on the two mounting brackets to allow you to move the stereo forward and back, so it sits correctly.
Hopefully others will read this and not go down the dremel route and ruin a perfectly decent panel.

Howdy. At the risk of me being stupid, there was no way i could figure to get it mounted wothout cutting. I used the 2 brackets that held the original stereo and i tried all the combinations of holes.
I have fitted many double dins over my years in other cars and for friends and they overall fit ok. This one is just 3 ish mm too big for the hole.
Mounting it slightly recessed meant the car pannel was pushing on the silver volume button and i could not open the sd card door. So my only choice was to cut.
Initially it looked pants i will admit.
But i have given it a good sanding, tidied up the edges and painted a hopefully better colour.
Pictures coming shortly. of it finished.
Hmm i am not sure if this may be better in the projects thread?

Looking at the pictures I think I have figured it out. Most double dins will have a bezel, finishing trim etc that clips on. The scooby double din is meant to sit behind so if it has the bezel then you don't fit that on and the scooby surround will behave as the bezel. Now on your one and seems to be the same on a lot of double din units from the east have the bezel built in and have to sit on top of where they are being fit which obviously doesn't work with the scooby trim. Now I could be talking out my **** so take it with a pinch of salt lol.
Get one of the mods to move it to the projects section.

Oooh my hazard switch just arrived so running out to reassemble dash!!
@NOSSY_89 The double din does have an add in black surround that adds another 5mm ish per side but the dash parts were hitting the actual buttons of the stereo without the extra surround.
I may have made some enemies straight away by cuttung up a subaru
Question. How are the zunsport grilles?
And what on earth is the diff between the lower grille and the full span lower grille? both look the same to me??

Update 4 - go away silver dash
Ok so i took appart the centre console and sanded down all the silver parts, sprayed them with some primer. Chose my favorate colour in matt to spary them. And 3 coats later with some drying time they have come up pretty well, all nice and smooth with no runns.
I also took the opportunity to replace the hazard switch with the red one.
Colour is a bit bright and in your face but happy with the overall look .
Only real issue is that the middle bottom just under the stereo is pushing out a tiny bit, so just need to take middle pannel off and refit.

Pantone 319 - 1K , Full Matt.
I was going to laquer it too for protection but then I would loose the matt look.
Now I need to figure out how to afford defi gauges.
Are the prosport ones worth it?

A matt lacquer should keep the matt finish. Where did you buy the paint from. I'm finding paint very expensive and if the paint is at a decent price the postage kills it.
Defis are very expensive but are meant to be very accurate. I've had 2 different sets of Prosport gauges in different cars. One had the warning setting and the other without. I actually have a set sat here doing nothing lol.
