That looks great. I'll probably look at one of these when i'm old enough lol.

Question, why the heat wrap on the inlet?

Thanks buddy

The heat wrap is there to keep the cool air cool going into the throttle body whilst traveling through the hot engine bay . I don't know if this makes a difference but working on the theory what keeps the heat in must keep the heat out, also its there to cover up the damage to the boost tube paint from my w/m installation.

Did a bit of work to the Forester today.
These alcon bells are 18 months old so i was a bit disapointed to find them covered in rust

So paint stripper aint as good as it used to be

This is a phoshoric acid treatment i use for rust, its 85 % it really works well with a hot air gun

For primer i use a zinc rich weld thru job which is the best high temp paint ive found

So ive bolted back up.... And the hand brake is now binding, tomorrow ill take it all apart again and adjust the shoes. Ive got nothing but time......

Cheers Shreksta, I used this brush, which is the best cleaning brush ive ever owned and i used muc off motorcycle cleaner and a hose. I removed the cone filter and did a k+n re charge and put a plastic bag over the open trumpet. I had to go over a few bits twice and had to wait for the filter to dry. Im gonna get some auto glym engine cleaner for the future and some longer brushes apparently the auto glym stuff is the best?

sounds good, cant beat soft bristle brushes for detail work. Did you cover up the electrics?

I know you should cover the electrics , but I didn't , I only used a hose to wash it down but was careful not to linger over the alternator , having said that I have jet washed the whole engine before now with no ill effects .

I used autoglym engine degreaser and Bilt Hamber Surfex, both good but Surfex is dilutable and works just as well at 20%, so will last way longer. It can also be used on anything, like fabric stains, and removed the really serious dirt stains under trims when neat.

Its very fast for a small estate car , it is a bit more laggy but when im driving fast the gearing and the power works very well , say you change gear at 6k and grab the next gear it always lands with in the power band ready to go again , it seems to be a very good map and drives like a quick non turbo car off boost.
Ive asked Abbey to write a few words about what they did with the map and ill post it up here . Did I mention its very loud !

Glad to hear you're enjoying it! So are you running a screamer pipe? I have heard they can be rather loud on boost. Do you think it would pass the noise check for a track day? Just wondering as I may end up going the rotated route at some point in the future.
Also good to know Abbey have done a nice map, they are closer to me than my current alternatives.

It might pass the noise check but once on track i think you would be pulled in after the first lap, i passed my mate on the dual carrige way, he said it sounds like a Spitfire.

Im happy with it overall but its started using more oil than i would like but its done well over 50k on the motor so ill probably whip the engine out and have it rebuilt.
The shortlist of builders are
AS performance
Tim Farmer
Roland Alsop
Finch Motor Sport
This time i will use the boost a bit more when running in to expand the rings. 👍

50k seems like a reasonable return for a built engine. The list of builders there looks good to me although I never heard of Roland Alsop. Where is he based?
So did you replace the whole headlight unit or just the lens? my blob lenses are pretty bad so it I could swap them out without the cost of replacing the whole unit I'd be a happy man :-)
