Default STI hatch...

Well the day is nearly here....tomorrow I'm heading down to Englandshire to collect the new motor and it's been a long few weeks after leaving a deposit.

We're leaving here at roughly 09:00hrs and aim to be there for roughly 14:00hrs dependant upon traffic and stops, we'll be in the super economical daily. My missus will be coming with me and she's a tad apprehensive about driving back home as she's not a massive fan of the motorway but I'll make it worth her while

Here's some pics.......

I've got no plans with this motor other than just to enjoy it, I have bought a set of BC br coilovers but I'm undecided on whether I'll fit them or not. The car is on 30mm lowering springs and I'll see how they go first before deciding.

I've got a few plans for the Wagon that I'll be doing first but that will now become the wife's daily and her daily will now become my daily and this one will be more of a weekend car etc etc......you know what I mean.

Super excited

Lovely. Saw this advertised and fancied the exhaust. Custom job apparently. Enjoy.

Cheers guys.......

It's been a long day, it was a good drive home getting acquainted with the car but I also had to lead the missus home as she was a bit nervous of the 250 miles back on the motorway. She did well.

The car is spot on, lovely inside and out. I know the interior of the Impreza's aren't much to write home about but it's a bit better than the blob wagon so I'm well chuffed with it.

Most of the journey home was spent on the lowest setting but I had a little play with the other 2 maps and what a difference, very quick, sounds awesome as well.

The spec is a

forge engine built 20k ago
mapped by AF running circa 370bhp,
30mm lowering springs
turbo back exhaust
Fmic
Xxr 527 18"
Clifford concept 650 alarm

I'm over the moon, I had considered other cars but I'm glad I went with this one. Very tastefully modded IMHO and the missus likes it which is a bonus.

No plans as such, I have a set of BC br coilovers sitting there that I may put on but other than that just enjoy it as it is.

I found the print out for it which shows 361bhp & 400 lbs-ft.....

I'm happy with that.

I wouldn't put the coilovers on unless the current suspension has an issue, or you prefer a raw (ie lots more NVH) feel.

Having said that, with standard ARB's and forgiving tyres they are not too bad.

My thinking at the moment is I'll see how it is on the 30mm springs and then decide. If I like it as is I'll just sell them on.

That's the motor booked in to have the geometry set up on Thursday, there's an issue with the windscreen washer bottle, there appears to be a leak from higher up in the bottle. It will hold a few litres but any more it starts to pish out, I'll have them look whilst it's in to see exactly what's wrong then I'll get it replaced.

I'm trying to get out as much as I can just now even though the car gets in a right mess, the roads are terrible. Bring on the better weather.

I've been looking through the paperwork and the Andy Forrest map was carried out in November 2015 and the print outs are from the middle of 2013 so at that time it would've been mapped by someone else......presumably Surrey Subaru specialists? The print out has Surrey Rolling Road ltd on it.

It doesn't matter really as the car pulls extremely well and Andy Forrest maps are the way forward but the reason for digging was I'm trying to figure out if I have the capabilities for adjusting the launch control rpm. I had read that there was a software update allowing for this and I had presumed the AFP map was done prior to this, but it appears the map was done in late 2015 which means I should have it, but it didn't seem to work when i tried it last night. I never launched it, I just wanted to see if it worked.

I've sent Andy an email asking anyway, so I should hear back within the next week or so

Well **** me dead!

There was a knocking noise coming from the front left which I presumed was the tie rod that was mentioned on the MOT advisory. Now I had mentioned to the seller before collecting whether or not he was having this replaced but he assured me it was nothing to worry about and that it wasn't even making a noise, I had no reason to query this as he's a mechanic in the army and preps and builds rally cars in his spare time.

I had booked the car in at Hypertech to have the problem looked at and then have the geometry set up etc, but the day before it was going through there I gave the car a wash and there was the dreaded dead rainbow on the ground

I checked the oil level expecting it to be low and to my amazement it was high, and I mean ridiculously high from stone cold it was way above the hot oil temp notch on the dipstick. But......there was clearly an issue with oil leaking from somewhere. The day I collected the car we looked under the bonnet and the oil cap was off because he had topped it up during the day. I had no reason to question it, just goes to show you though. Somehow he has managed to stick way too much in. Apparently he stuck 200ml in but imho there's at least 500-1000ml too much in there.

Car got dropped off at Hypertech where I told him to give the car the once over and there's a few issues.....

Suspension strut top mount gubbed, that's what's causing the knocking. He never mentioned the tie rod though.

2 suspension struts are worn, not sure to what extent and whether they will need replacing or whether it would make sense to replace. I have a set of BC br coilovers that can go on so that's not an issue to be honest. The car in my opinion handled rather well.

Way too much oil, oil looks too thick and like it ain't the right type.......

Oil leak from the rear of the engine, where from exactly he doesn't know as it was just a quick look but I should know more tomorrow. I'm heading down to drop the BC's off and I'll discuss what the exact issue is with the suspension struts are and then decide whether to get the coilovers fitted or not.

A few other small issues, nothing major to be honest but the oil leak is worrying me a little bit. And if it's been caused by the ridiculously amount of oil that was stuck in then I'd be proper pissed especially when it's a decent build with a good spec.

Gutted and feeling sorry for myself

Sorry to hear your issues. Maybe he noticed the oil was low just before you arrived and chucked any old stuff in.

I dropped the BC's off at Duncan's today and we spoke about the struts and he says they're ****ed, the tie rod is actually fine. The issue is with the strut itself, both front ones. It would either be replace them with new ones or fit the coilovers which makes perfect sense as I have them already.

TBH the ride was quite stiff with the 30mm lowering springs fitted so I'm not fussed about it being too stiff with the BC's, it's not my daily and I'm wanting a car that's going to handle well.

He hasn't had a chance to inspect the oil leak any further so it looks like Tuesday before I'll know. Fingers crossed!

I'll be glad to get the car back in good working order then I can crack on and enjoy it......then maybe consider upping the power

I've had the car back a week now so thought I'd better update this thread.

Both track rods were replaced along with the track rod ends, the near side track rod was bent.

The BC br coilovers were stuck on and set up for fast road, same ride height as the spec before which was std shocks on 30mm lowering springs.

The car handles really well now, awesome in fact. I'm looking forward to some proper dry roads.

The oil was overfilled by 500ml. So it's now filled with some pro-r 15-50

The engine is seeping oil from a few places but it's nothing to worry about, I've done roughly 400 miles in the last week and the oil level has barely budged.

I do believe my brake discs are warped, originally when I felt some brake judder through the steering I presumed it was to do with the tie rod that was mentioned in the MOT advisory but it's still there, so I'm fairly certain that's what it is.

I've got 2 new arch liners to fit as well, the ones on the car just now are proper fooked, once they're fitted I'll be chuffed.

A few pics from today, I was out trying to suss what was up with the brakes. I'll inspect them further when I get the chance to fit the arch liners hopefully within the next week.
