Well, After looking at options for a while I finally bit the bullet and added a new pony to my stables! She's a 2004 Forester STI and been in the contry for a couple of years now. Came to me with full Jap service history, low miles with all original paint. Has various sensible upgrades like full new pedders suspension, STI (factory fitted) genome back box, centre resonated pipe and a few more. It really does drive very well indeed, I'm very pleased. Also means I can keep my Hawk!
More practical than the impreza, but not quite as quick (yet). I'll be doing a few bits and getting her remapped soon so will let you know what it makes.
So now I have 2x 2.5 engines to worry about! hehe.
Anyhoo... couple of pics for you. Will post more when I've started improving it.

Nice car! I have always liked the look of the Forester and appreciate its compact dimensions compared with the Range Rover. Have you had the opportunity to try it off road yet or will it be a road only car?
Thanks chaps. It will not be used off road, only as my daily to drop kids at nursery and get me too and from work. It needs a few basics first like full geo setup with the new suspension and although it's only just had an oil change it'll get a full comprehensive cambelt, plugs and fluids service before I get it remapped.
She really shifts though so no idea what it's putting out already, but I think it's easily 300bhp now judging by how it goes.
For some reason scoobynet won't let me upload any pictures in any form today no matter how hard I try. Haven't got a lot more anyhow as it's always been dark when I get home and I'm using the Impreza today! Oh to have the choice of cars again! Got 4 cars taxed, MOTd and insured I can use at home now. haha.
I'll get some more pics up at the weekend with any luck.
To be honest, the Forester STI's are really holding their money as they are so rare and the value is actually increasing at the moment. I've been looking at these for a while and 50k mile versions like this are up for £11k at the moment. There are a few out there, but not many good ones to choose from.
Was a private purchase. Most are for sale with traders at the moment and that's still only a handful. I've never been a huge fan of WRB and was looking at Crystal grey or white ones but this one was too good to pass up. :-)
In Impreza world thats a newage wrx intercooler count the bars. Wrx has 20 something sti has 32 or there about. Sad I know but that but I had to because off all the wrx "replicas" with sti sprayed on them trying to rip people off on ebay
Wrx cooler isn't as deep as the sti unit. I count 29 bars on that pic. Maybe they had a forester specific unit from factory? The scoop undertray is huge, it's comical.
I'll compare it to my hawk sti tomorrow just out of interest. :-)
Just found a few more images online of forester sti's with 29 bar intercoolers. Maybe some had these and later models had the later 30+ type.

Your most probley right it maby a deeper bespoke unit for the forester. Considering they made a custom pully cover interior etc its all completely different to the Impreza.
I realy like the front end on these. Meanest looking suv by far!
P.s why does it have two radios?

Maybe it's a jdm thing on the forester cos all the pics I can find show the same 29 row cooler as mine.
The forester at one time had the optional Subaru satnav unit mounted in the dash top double din pod. Someone has changed things around and put the stereo up top and installed a Samsung tablet in the normal lower position. It all works but I'll be changing it all back around again to put my kenwood satnav head unit back in the normal position.
Got a free Samsung Galaxy tablet for the wife though.lol.

That would be pretty cool having two double din screens in there one for sat nav and the other for radio. You could wire up a rear view cam and have a permanent feed to like I done when not using the satnav
I've already got the reversing camera working on my kemwood stereo and can be switched on automatically when reversing or whenever I'm driving while still using the nav. Is quite funky. I might see if I can get the tablet streaming spotify or YouTube to the stereo. Should be simple enough! :-)
