Default Hello all and this is my new and first Subaru.

My first post on this forum people, so hello to you all. I plan on being a regular and active member here from now, so here we go.

I have just bought my first Subaru and its a 2008 hatchback model WRX STI and so far I am happy with it . I moved to this from a history of hot hatchbacks that I have had in the past, ranging from a RenaultSport Clio 182, a RenaultSport Megane 225 Trophy and most recently a 2006 VW Golf MK5 R32.

This was bought from Matt Ward, a former member on here I believe whom was based in Huntingdon, near Cambridge.

I fancied something with a little more poke than my R32, as that was naturally aspirated so more power was something hard to achieve without adding a turbo or supercharger, which to me seemed cost ineffective.

This is my new motor:

Car looks good but did you do your research on these cars? as the hatch sti is apparantly notorious for its engine blowing to pieces

Not telling you that to have a dig, but just as a warning as if its not had a forged piston rebuild chances are it may go **** up at some point!.

Yes I know the engines aren't as strong as my old R32's for instance, but it has had an engine rebuild given that the oil pump failed with the previous owner, so hopefully it should be ok now.

Welcome on board JJ.
Like said before you really want a forged engine rebuild to be on the safe side.
Anyway nice motor

Oil pump failed on that year of car? Not convinced mate tbh

But least it had a rebuild already

Thank you for the mostly positive comments chaps.

I am obviously very new to these engines as this my first Jap motor.

I know the VAG engines off the top of my head, but these are unknown territory for now, so hopefully all will be ok if I just keep servicing as required and look after it as best as I can.

Thanks.

lovely car mate!

Unfortunately the guys are correct about the 2.5 problems. I have a hawk sti in standard form and have 5k sitting in the bank ready for when it goes pop. It may not do as some 2.5's seem to last and others have been known to go very early on, there's no 'cut-off point' as such, it's just pot luck. I will say though that if you mod it power wise, you'll be dicing with death. However, HG issues aside, the 2.5 IMO is a great engine. Overtaking is a joy lol!
