Default Just bout an 07 and want to get ideas /info

Hello,

I purchased a 2007 WRX with 89000 on the clock.

Looks and drives good. Previous owners seemed to have done a few things.
A few small issues - Front right headlight is cracked an rear right headlight has a chip in the corner of it. Both seem able to allow moisture in. Is it hard to find blob eye tails? Will wagon ones work? How about headlights?

The battery light was on, but was apparently tested at a local place and deemed good. The alt was also tested and passed but was mentioned some of the bushing might be going inside of it.

I did a red with an OBD2 reader - No voltage vaults found but did find and clear an engine code of P0410 which is a secondary Air injection sys malfunction - the car does idle low, so I need to find if I have a vacuum leak?

As it is approaching 90K I plan on doing the timing belt and water pump pretty soon as I don't want to risk it.

I haven't had time to throw it up on a lift yet, but there is an exhaust leak advisory from the MOT...Easy fix and neighbor is a welder

I do want to take a look at the suspension as it just feels harsh and bouncy.... I don't remember the blob eye being as rough.

Is there anything else I should look for? I did own a blob eye before and I'm looking to do basic upgrades - up/down pipe / intake / tune / exhaust and that be about it. Knowing what transfers from an STI to this could help and save a little cash too.

Any input is appreciated.

Hi , blob tails are easy to source , put a add in wanted section or contact matty on here ( authorised ( breakers section ) secondary air system is secondary air pump ( round cylinder that sits next to your right strut when you pop the bonnet. It feeds air in on cold start & is a known major fault .. Loads of threads on here on how to junk the system do a search ( secondary air system ) .. All Hawks are bouncy , it's up to you were you go with that 1 but it's perfectly normal on oem set up
Regards

Thanks for the tip!

Picked up a forge dump valve and an intake both used for $100 USD this weekend.
Taking it to the dealer on Thursday to give it a once over to check out things

Also taking it to A14 Tyres for a custom exhaust. Heard they are pretty outstanding in this area.

I had the secondary air system removed from my 06 sti and had the map tweaked so I didn't get an EML. Much better .

More hassle than it's worth, common issue too. Remove the issue, job done.

Good luck changing your indicator bulbs though, can be done without removing the lights, you just need to unclip the wheel arch liner and have thin hands and be able to use your hands . You can't see what you're doing though you gotta do it all by feel !

Well small update...

Picked up a timing belt and water pump.... Went to do those today and it didnt go so well.

Broke one of the bolts going into the water pump. On the bottom right. The middle one.
Well hoped and put everything back together.

Didnt even get to turn it on just pouring rad fluid in and it started leaking out around the pump. Cant tell where because of the plastic covers. Was at a auto hobby shop on base so ran out of time.

Now tomorrow I go back and pull everything off to see where its leaking from to find out if its from around where the bolt broke or somewhere else.

Will also pull off... We used a new gasket and some blue permatex so hope that didnt cause it.

Just frustrated. Im here in England and paying someone to do this would of cost about $1000. Just wanted to save some cash.

Also need to get a new headlight on the left side as it is cracked. Thats going to cost a lot as its a HID as well.

On a good note got a great deal on a new HKS exhaust from the Turbo back. 3 inch all the way with no down pipe.

So I have managed to buy a few more parts that are currently being installed by Mocom Racing.

I picked up a used STI intercooler/undertray
20g Turbo
Waboro 255lhp fuel pump
Injector Dynamics 1000cc Fuel injectors
Putting in a colder set of plugs
Oil change and general maintenance

After the install and new tune hoping for around 400hp

Already have done the Grimm Speed 3inch up pipe and HKS 3 inch down-pipe all the way through

Thoughts?

I cannot wait to get this thing and drive it with the new bits on.

sounds good buddy, isn't 400hp fairly ambitious though?

Hope you have money to forge the engine as that 2.5 wont last very long with that lot bolted on

While I appreciate the concern, I wont be beating the ever loving **** out of this thing either. I'm not the boy racer type to do AWD launches and drive ***** to the wall.

I will have some spirited highway driving with it and one or two track days but I have seen plenty of the 2.5s in the states last just fine with the items went after if properly taken care of at the 400ish mark.

Have the car up and on the road. Its nice and pulls hard.

She made just under 400 to the crank and about sitting nice around 356 to the wheels.
Im impressed and loving it.

Boost is sitting at .95 bar.

Small issue with the STI intercooler I picked up. The bracket on the right side when facing the engine isnt long enough for the holes to line up so Im wondering if it is an intercooler from a bug eye and not a blob.

Any suggestions?

Good luck.

You'll need a new clutch for that. Also, the injectors are a massive over kill as you won't reach 400 with those mods alone.

If you're aiming for 400 then there are quite a few expensive things missing from your list such as FMIC.

If you are planning on doing track days, then budget £1500 for a 6 speed gearbox upgrade once the current 5 speed blows up. And it will. Very quickly.

Also budget for head gasket on the 2.5 and the obligatory full engine rebuild that goes with it. £3.5k+

Just a little advice, keep the max boost below 1.35bar to give the engine a fighting chance of lasting the week out.

Good luck. Keep us updated!
