A taste of the dark side....
After owning 3 Subarus since 2007 i have decided to have a go and get me self a bit different and still very similar in some ways car.
Lancer Evo VI GSR Ralliart
It's a 15 year old barge and needed some love plus minor mods to make it feel mine . Everything is still in a process and it's much slower compared to a scoob , but naturally . It's got few extra things in standart trim of what only a more focused subaru has , plus a sophisticated transmition system that i was missing in all of my scoobs. that would be an equivalent to a DCCD system.
I can assure you , AYC doesnt drive your car , as we've been hearing the famous myth , it came out as a big surprise for me of how great that system can be when you get used to it. Mod wise i have nothing major yet on my mind , surprisingly i like the way it behaves and don't feel to do any major upgrades just yet.

To me.....the Evo is slightly quicker than a STi but isn't as much fun.I found that I didn't notice how fast a Evo is going till you look at the speedo. But the big difference is how it handles.I was surprised how big the difference is.

A fair comparison, and a very honest one to say that you are still driving a Evo, but this is how I found the whole Subaru/Evo experience, The Evo is so much more planted that it doesn't seem to be much fun, as you point it in a direction and it just seems to grip with no drama at all.

Would look better in white
Glad you are enjoying it mate.
Like you say.... they are so good straight out the box that they don't need much done to them.
Very light and nimble compared to a Newage.

That is awesome. There's a couple by me, white 6 and a purple 5, the former slightly neglected. I had a seven for twelve months and it was quick, circa 350bhp with a map etc. mine was an evo 7xt330. It was quick, quicker than my previous scoobs. My current one would give it a run from a standing start and slightly rolling but higher up the evo would have been quicker.

But there are downsides, the drivetrain is weak, service intervals are shorter than a STi,every 4000 miles and Rust!!!

The V and VI have the AYC aswell, not sure about the IV
The AYC repair costs aren't as bad these days. There is a £90 kit with YouTube guide if you want to try it yourself, or £250-£300 for a specialist to do it.

AYC started form IV
Just reading some of your posts puts a smile on my face . Evo needs to be compared to a more sophisticated Spec c or at least quick rack a-dccd car IMO.
And even then it puts less pressure on front end and doesn't undertseer as much. We're talking about standarish cars here.
My experience is so alike to Richies and Scoobyboys is crazy , very planted almost takes away the speed sensation , torqey at the bottom end cause of twin scroll turbo setup.
More stable at higher speeds entering the corner , but need to be careful when lifting off the throttle , many people do lift too much and if you're not handy and lazy to counter steer you'll see the rear end pointing wrong direction. Now as i got to know it a bit better i can't find a reason for me to get back to Subaru lot . There's one little bit which was mentioned as well , fun factor . It's definitively not more fun than a scooby , but much more dynamically efficient. It just absorbs all the bends without any drama , sticks to the road like a hoover to the carpet
My bug had pretty decent setup , AP's , AST's , quick rack , billet 20G , etc etc and it never ever felt as good as this on standart shocks and Eibach springs i'm afraid ...
AYC is not that huge pain anymore as you can hear on here , they do go but because of age and bad maintenance or other circumstances , they're easy repairable nowadays. I've found so many myths spread by scooby fanatics now when i'm got to know whats what some makes me cringe .
There's one downside thought , drive train , subaru 6 speeder on Hard race mounts and Goodridge shift bushes felt like a gun shot when you change the gear. Evo feels like a stone age to compare
Service intervals , i always wondered how often are we servicing our scoobs , mine was probably every 3-4-5k most anyway , cause it was hooned on B roads and taken on track . So not a huge difference for me , specially when can change the fluids myself.

Some of the V-VI's had front LSD RS diff due to a shortage of the open type meant for the GSR.
EVO VII - Active Centre Differential, Centre Viscous Coupling Unit, Active Yaw Control Rear Diff
EVO VIII - Active Centre Differential, Centre Viscous Coupling Unit, Super Active Yaw Control Rear Diff
EVO IX - Font LSD, Active Centre Differential, Centre Viscous Coupling Unit, Super Active Yaw Control Rear Diff
