I'm unsure about yours, (the 2005 car), but you may have got one of the so-called "smart" alternators, which only charge when they sense a load.

If your car hasn't this, it may throw the code.

I think all newage cars have it, afaik it came in with the bugeye?

Are you certain the new alternator is working?
What about your battery?
Not possible to have left a wire off?

My classic had the same done about 5 years ago, £25. TBH, there's not much else to wear on modern alternators.

Going to hijack this thread lol, just about to have my classic Alternator refurbed as its throwing up the battery not charging warning light on the dash as well as the known handbrake light on at the same time.

took to an alt specialist and he replaced brushes as a simple measure but made no difference on his workbench, so it looks like the regualor and rectifier/diode pack are to be replaced, he reckons all in around £75-£80 for the whole job, considering pattern parts are £85 and original alts are couple hundred quid, ive opted for a refurb as i want to keep the genuine lat in place.

he tested bearing and the split ring etc, all those were good, considering it had done 100k tho, the brushes were really low and its the original alt !

one weird thing tho, when the alt wasnt working (charge light on) idle was 1500 and wouldnt lower, hoping that sorts itself out when alt is back on lol

cheers
