Default electrical head ache

Hi i had my car a week now its a year 2000 uk turbo it came with a old jvc tape player. It turned on but had no sound i then found that non of the speakers was connected. Any way rhis is when the problem started i took it out on saturday and all was ok then yesterday my boost gauge light stopped working (thought it was knackered). The clock dimmer switch stopped working unless the lights was on.
So i tried to fit my head unit today i could hear it turn on but i had no display.
So yeh ive been out all day and i havent cot a clue.n

Sounds like you've disturbed something when removing it.
WHY were none of the speakers connected? Are they connected now?

Check carefully behind the headunit, that's where people pick up the live for lighting gauges.

No i havnt conncted them up yet. The gauge has been wired to the live and neg on the sterio wires.
But how would that stop the stereo display from working?.

It shouldn't, unless you have either blown a fuse, or pulled another wire loose somewhere.

Is there a small fuse on the rear of the headunit? My Sony has one.

it just seems weird that all these things happened at once.

Possibly damaged the headunit removing, or fitting to the new car?
