Hawkeye Main Beam replacement
Hi All,
I am a new owner of a hawkeye sti. And unfortunately the drivers side bulb blew on the way home. I know unlucky start.
Have done a bit of searching but not found everything I needed.
I believe the bulb is a D2s, now what I haven't been able to find is how hard these are to fit?
The handbook says to bring it in, that sounds costly!
Also if anyone has an links to good bulbs it would be greatly appreciated
Cheers
Joe

You sure it has HID?.
IF you can get to it, the HID bulb is no more difficult to change than a halogen, the same rules apply about not touching it, and ensuring it's seated properly.
First off, are we sure it's the bulb, and not the wiring, or the ballast?
Swapping the bulbs from side to side will check: if the problem is still on the same side, it's the ballast. If the problem swaps sides, it's the bulb.
Secondly, it will be an OE kit I assume, factory lights? If so, the bulb will be 4300K. Don't be tempted to go higher....higher colour temperature just means bluer, and actually gives LESS light, that's why factory bulbs are 4300K.
Thirdly if you remove the bulb, you will see who made it, you can then buy one to match. Unlike halogens, this CAN be important to that you get EXACTLY the same colour on both sides. The bulb is likely to be Philips or Hella, my guess would be Philips.
They are all over ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PHILIPS-D2...item19e92682cb

Without having a car in front of me I couldn't say, but worst case you would need to remove the headlight. D2S bulbs are no more difficult to change than a normal filament bulb so the drama will be space to get your hand on

Only on certain cars, and would you really trust one of their monkeys to do a big job like this - I've watched 'em try and change wiper blades; you may as well go to kwik fit

I have got a viper induction kit, so access to the bulb seems to be quite straight forward.
