Basically I got my first subaru impreza classic few week ago and it's got the black lexus style rear lights but when I press the brake pedal the d/s brake light dosent come on but the normal running light is on when I let go of the brake but goes off when I brake ( it shares the same bulb ) I've had the bulb changed and still the same

Pull the connector off the rear, then remove the bulb holder and trace the wiring/strips to each bulb.

Look also at corrosion and poor connections at each bulb, and at the multi-way connector.
