My WRX SL has developed a problem, the dipped beam is not as bright as it should be.

There is a warning indicator up on the dash for a while during startup, according to the manual its indicating a problem with 'levelling adjustment' or something to those words.

its only the dipped beam thats the problem, not really sure whats going on!

anyone have any ideas? and what to check the HIDS for, they are original Subaru equipment too..

 

An idea of what year the car is would help us.

there have been a few threads on here about the levelling going wonky, it's NOT a cheap cure, unfortunately.....

When you say one's not as bright, do you mean looking at it from a distance, or from the driving seat, or looking at both from the same angle close up?

What I'm trying to get at is: are the burners the same brightness, or is one obviously pointing down?

 

Its a 56 reg hawkeye WRX SL, I had a feeling its not going to be cheap..

they are both drastically reduced in brightness due to them visibly pointing downwards, they both just don't seem to be at the same level as they used too. this is when viewed from the drivers seat by the way..

It looks like the levelling is knackered on both, not sure if I want to throw large amounts of money at it to be honest.

I believe its down to some kind of load adjuster, when it packs up it messes the headlight pattern up, some will stay at the correct setting whilst others will just hit the deck, I'm not sure if there is some kind of fix that can be done to level them back up without that adjuster

 

Would seem the box of tricks that controls the leveling has a nasty habit of giving up the ghost, the box itself is behind the glove box, you have to remove the glove box and you will then be able to get to this box. I've not a clue how much this box costs but just hope mine don't pack in.

 

cheers, I'd imagine the only way i'd get a price on that part is to go through the main dealers.. so its going to be pricey!

To be honest I don't want to throw money at the lights esp after having just replaced all the shocks!

@ Infected by sti I'll have to investigate into a possible of way of fixing them if even possible without replacing that adjuster.. both of them have certainly hit the deck!

I can't stump up that kind of cash for the sensors at the moment unfortunately.. Going to try and inspect the sensor connections.

But I'll have to leave it as it is for the moment and adjust the lights manually as much as I can to raise them back up a bit!

very shocked parts are that expensive, knew they'd be pricey but thats ridiculous!

 

It does tend to be the senders, rather than the electronics. Subaru have fitted them in a place that tends to get very dirty and wet, and without enough protection..............
