Hey I've not long had my subaru, 4 weeks. It cut out on my while I was driving today (slow driving, and seconds away from my house luckily) Only the hazard lights worked, no dash lights no fuel pump no electric windows etc, had to push it back home and after looking everywhere I finally found my "fusible link" had burned itself out.

I assumed this was because of a short in the electrics somewhere and I found the negative leads attached to the alternator were loose because the stud (underneath the rubber boot of the connection, a 10mm nut is screwed on top of the negative lead to keep it in place on the alternator) had been completely de-threaded and the nut and cable were free to move around.

I realised this negative terminal can be removed by undoing ANOTHER 10mm nut just below the terminal itself.

Does anyone know if I can get this small part separately? The alternator is in perfect working order so I don't want to buy another alternator just for the terminal. Or has anybody got an old alternator that doesn't work at all but this small part is in good condition?

I rang a couple of local scrapyards today and they haven't got any subarus! They're obviously looking in the wrong bushes.

Could try Harry Buckland's over Cheltenham he's got a classic estate in, you can take the parts of the cars so you don't have to buy the complete alternator.
