The self levellers are for you to adjust the headlight beam. Down to the right when in the drivers seat is a **** for adjusting the height and in an MOT you have to be able to adjust them while sat in the drivers seat.......but no idea what will have been removed while fitting the HIDs......sorry

Self levellers are usually fitted to hid equipped cars to ensure they don't blind other road users and would be very difficult to retro fit, if going back to halogen then the manual adjusters that should still be in the headlights will be fine. Only issue with going back is you need to put a grommet in the large hole drilled in headlight bulb cap else water will get in.
