Default Outside Temperature Sensor

Picked the wife a 52 plate WRX on Sunday only driven it 30 miles but noticed tonight that the outside temperature reading said it was 35degrees, which I know it wasn't. Not really important but is it just the sensor which is likely to be stuffed? If so where is it & is it easy/cheap to change? Do I presume correctly it won't have any effect on the car it's just a 'luxury' add-on.
