It's probably AT the connector, it's just drawn like that to keep to wiring rules: horizontal or vertical wires only.

Find the connector, chances are there are TWO wires leaving it.

You can usually SEE if there is an extra connection as it will be labelled or numbered.

following your advice i've been trying to find the plug with maybe 2 wires going into it but to not avail.

Looking at the wiring diagram it shows the plug behind the speedo cluster but i can't find it there either. This diagram looks American so would it be behind the glove box instead??

Any ideas

No, usually the wiring is different for LHD and RHD cars.

Where are you looking for the connector? I'd work back from the headlight.

With wiring problems, there are NO short cuts, it's work carefully and methodically until you isolate the problem.

This is the thing once the cable from the headlight goes into the loom i can't trace it due to being wrapped up, I was trying to check for a short between this connector hidden under the dash and the socket for the headlight as that would appear to be the only run with connectors on it.

My headlights are playing silly buggers and not working properly and on inspection the plugs and sockets were corroded badly enough i replaced them but i needed to cut back some of the loom as there seemed to be corrosion that has crept up inside of the wires,

I have checked fuses/ voltages feeding the lights but now into the dreaded Subaru switched negative side. The switch works OK, the bulbs are fine so now left with the wiring.

I was hoping to find a join of connection so i can run a new wire up if i found that to be the cause.

Whats the problem are both dips failing because of a broken switched earth.

I've got Prodrive quads

nearside Dip works fine, offside Dip is Dim

Turn mains on
Nearside Dip & main come on

Offside dip and main are off.

Intermittently i do have the mains on extremely dim when the dips are turned on WITHOUT the mains turned on, But still have the offside dim

Have you tried giving dip a direct earth of the inner wing that will tell you for sure whether its a earth or live problem

If your blowing fuses its not likely to be a switched earth problem, its possible theres a shorting wire or faulty relay. Are these standard fitment or have they been added,if the latter were relays added. The diagram above looks like its for wrx will see if i can find the dual light one.

they are standard bulbs if that's what you mean. All thats on the back of the headlight is a wiring loom that adapts the H4 connector to the H7 dip bulb. They have been working fine until recently when they started playing up

Nice lights, the best thing to do is multimeter the old oem H4 connector first,as you look at it the top terminal is a switched earth for low beam, the left hand terminal is a switched earth for high beam, then switch to voltage and the right terminal is the power feed, and see what that shows up.Sorry forgot to add thats if you have a wrx not a uk300,if you have a uk300 i will dig out a diagram.

tested the lights and the wiring plugs on the car have 12 volts on the outside pins and 0v on the middle pins, when i have the ignition on and the dips turned on.

Whilst this is on i have dips light on and the mains are on very very dim

The oem relays are ok then sending the power through.Where you have 0volts you need to switch the multimeter to ohms to check your getting a good earth sent up for the high and low beams. If there earthing ok you can rule out problems with the oem wiring which makes things a lot easier.

That looks like a earth feed problem.Set the meter to the lowest reading and touch the probes together and take note of the reading you have. Start the car turn on the lights with your uk300s dissconnected then put them on dip, then probe the centre top terminal and put the other probe on the earth point on the inner wing then compare the readings they should be similar. Then put high beam on probe the left hand terminal and put the other probe to the earth point again on the inner wing and compare. You should have pretty equal readings of all 4 terminals.

right, i've been messing with my lights and managed to get them turning off and on at the same brightness. Dips come on and off.

BUT.... now when i turn the mains on they just seem to lock on and the only way to stop is it to turn lights off and on again.

Now i'm guessing the relay is being locked on some how?? Any ideas
