Footwell lights
I know many of you will say it's chavy but I want to wire some footwell lights so they come on when the door opens, anyone does this? O and the cars a 1996 classic wrx

Dead easy, find the wires in the footwell behind the trim, (it's the piece that covers the side of the footwell and the door kick plate), and link into those. A couple of LEDs in holders, one each side would be unobtrusive, but look good, you can get 12V LEDs in holders with a nut on the rear for fitting

I reckon you might want to wire to each switch.
To find the wires, buy a circuit tester: mine was about £3 and has a brass body with a sharp probe on it used to pierce insulation, and a wire on the other end goes to earth. Once you find the live wire, the bulb in the body lights up.
