Question

I've just bought a MY97 that has PIAA driving lamps in place of the front fogs. When the main beam headlights are on, the driving lamps are on (always). I would like to use the fog light light switch as an override so I can turn the driving lights off and use the main beams without the driving lights. Can anyone tell me if this possible and how it is done?

Thumbs up

Shaggy u can definately do that. Haven't done it yet to my machine but all you have to do is interrupt the supply from the main beam to the relay with the fog light switch (ie break the circuit). I have been thinking of doing this for a while but couldn't be ar*ed as I need the light on full beam anyway (also puts manners on idiots who refuse to dip!)

Cheers Pat

Certainly possible, it's how (I had) the dealer wire mine when they were installed.

I've got an RB5 and my Piaa's are wired like that. Foglight switch overides.
Suppose its for when you have the covers on them ?

My PIAAs have thir own overide switch which you can put either under the bonnet or in the cabin. Leaves all wiring as standard and only takes 2 mins to swap the units between PIAAs and std fogs!
(so why am I driving round with gaping holes in my front spoiler with no lights in at all at the moment ??? oh well.....)

Wink

Certainly can be done coz I did it to mine!!!!

You need an extra relay (fused) and use the original fog lamp switch to effectively arm the system so that with the original fog switch off then the headlamps work as normal and the spots never come on (so you can keep plastic covers on for protection). However when you turn the original fog switch on the spots will come on with high beam.

If you want a full wiring diagram and fitting guide I can knock one up and post to you. This way you adapt the wiring already in the car and don't have to run new wires into the cabin.
