engine turns over too long b4 starting
Hi all,
my 1999 uk turbo 2000 wagon takes 3-5 secs 2 fire up on first attempt when starting. if i turn key for 1 sec and let go then turn it for a 2nd time , the car fires up straight away every time on the 2nd attempt, doesnt matter if engine is hot/cold. no faults logged. i can hear the fuel pump prime up when switching the car on and have checked earth connections. its more of an anoyance(looks bad when in a crowd) rather than a problem ... any ideas pls

NGK plugs are the prefferred brand for Subes....I have had one bad experience with Bosch Super4...in an EJ22 engined Legacy.
I strongly recommend sticking to NGK. The iridium plugs are top notch, but they don't last forever. The 60K in the manual is okay for a car only subjected to "regular" driving. Bank on 40K miles if you, like me, engage in "spirited" driving :-)
The long cranking is pretty normal for Subarus. Some say it's a software glitch, that makes the ECU too cautious. I say it's on purpose, to prime the oil gallerys on a cold engine. My car (1999 GC8) will spend 2-3 seconds cranking when cold. Faster when it's warm.

after scaning the net the bosch super 4 do seem to get a bad press, so when i finally get around to it i might just check the plug gap, since soprano29 mentioned the plugs i think it started quicker on the standard ngk's i had in b4. and which i will be going back to nxt time.
