You can only do this properly if you completely remove the Morette outer lenses and replace with projectors.

Projectors are NOT made to shine through lenses like the ones on Morettes, which will distort the beam all over the place.

Aye, that would work, but you need them e-marked really if you aren't to fall foul of a pedantic MoT place

I have been thinking about doing this for a while too. I will try and get to my lock-up on friday to take some snaps of the headlights

Got a link? I know there this someone on the US ebay selling round projector headlights, but only 6 inch.

This is a project I am looking into.
I've had quite a few morette outers, but not got any to work on at the mo. I was going to get around the clear lens by having it shaped from perspex/acryllic.

Like all things mate, it can be done but you'll have to get ya thinking cap on when modifying and extending of the rear of the light unit like I done mine.

Your biggest issue is gonna be mounting the projector, even if you replace the lens to a crystal one or opt for a crystal lamp - mounting the projectors the issue. I'm sure when you start talking it apart things will become clearer.

I'm not that far from you, so if you want give me a shout and I'll take a look

IF you wanna be lazy. Well not lazy, but just don't have the skills like Darms. There is a guy on ebay, in the US, who can make round projectors. have a look at some of his listings: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/77-86...Q5fAccessories

I emailed him once, can't remmeber if he gave me a price or not. Would be good as a group buy.

Believe me it doesn't take that much skill mate

As for the ebay ones, they look like Halo's (using std H4 bulbs) - not ballast powered Projectors. It all depends what you want mate.

You are too modest

Morettes are just that more difficult because of sourcing the parts involved. Also I don't think anyone has managed to open one up successfully.

Them ebay ones are a very cheap alternative, worst ways you could put a HID conversion kit in there.

Exactly one year later, I have sourced a clear morette sized light unit.

With the original for comparison:

They fit into the morette unit fine. not the greatest looking quality, and of course, not e-marked.
But my plan is to open them up at some point, and try a projector in there, because I love my morettes, the car feels a bit plain without them.

I await the outcome with interest.

I CAN recommend the projectors AND the service from the Retrofit Source in the USA.

Yeah I would prefer those ones you got. I'll go for a test fit at some point, with the projectors I already have.
