Question

Anyone know which bulbs are fitted to the STI headlamps, and whether any "upradted" versions are available ?

Are they the same bulbs as fitted to the MY01/02 WRX cars ?

Had a quick look through the past 30 days of threads but couldn't find the info.

Cheers

John

John, whilst I've got your attention, do you have an STi? Just wondering why your asking the question, are you unhappy with the quality of the STi units?

I'm toying with the idea of getting some STi units for my WRX and am interested to know what people think of the light quality.

Cheers,

boultsy.

John, the answer you are looking for is H1 dip beam, and HB3 / 9005 (bulb is alternatively listed as HB3 or 9005)for the main beam, I've ordered some upgraded bulbs from a contact in the US, and hopefully they will be here next week. I'll try and post some comparative pictures of the light output before and after

Boultsy, the lights are better as the H1 (dip) remains on with the HB3 / 9005 (main), whereas the normal WRX light has a H4 bulb, so you either have main or dip beam on, but not both. Additionally there are substantial differences in the headlamp wiring loom between the WRX and the STi, so the lamp units are not interchangeable!!

Boultsy, the adjustment is only to the dip beam side of things, so I'm afraid it is six wires!!

Thanks guys

I do indeed have an STi, and although the lights are better than my old Impreza in terms of dipped beam, they are still not really bright enough for making progress on dark country roads. OK on full beam, but again I think driving lamps will be essential.

John - I'd be very interested to hear how you get on with your uprated bulbs.

Cheers

Gents, these are the results from the upgraded bulbs

Dip beam normal H1 bulb

Main beam normal HB3 / 9005 bulb

Dip beam with H1 Super White Xenon bulb

Main beam with NB3 / 9005 Super White Xenon bulb

In my opinion Both bulbs show an improvement, dip beam being a moderate improvement, whilst the main beam offers a signifiacnt improvement. Probably the way to go is HID dip beam, and super White main, but that is only my personal opinion.
