Default HID fade out problem

Hi folks.

I have the OEM JDM HID setup. The offside bulb is at issue in that it only seems to work intermittently. Basically, when the headlights are switched they spark up and while the nearside one warms up and reaches temperature, the offside one flickers and fades out.

Now I know these systems are a little delicate to touch and take apart, but where should be looking and what should I be looking for regarding fault finding?

Thanks.

Doesn't sound too bad. Is there anything else I can check before splashing the cash?

to prove if it is the bulb swap them over to see if problem swaps to other light, if not them check all connections, also may be worth swapping ballasts over to see if that is the problem.

Ok cheers for the advice. I can't do any damage by handling them though can I? I was always lead to believe they are quite sensitive.

You don't want greasy fingers all over them as the heat will bake it !

As suggested try swapping L to R and see if the problem moves, if not it's the ballast unit, if it does it's the "globe"....

HTH

Cheers dunx.

I'll stick some gloves on then. Should it turn out to be a ballast do I have any options for repair on these? I'm aware that the bugeye JDMs go for a fair bit of cash so not thinking a replacement will be easy to come by.

The ballasts are pretty much interchangeable, as are STANDARD, (ie: OE FIT) bulbs.

If it turns out to be the ballast, contact BOB5' off here who may be able to set you up

Well here is the issue (after blowing both sidelights in the process and removing the front bumper)

There should be two plugs on top. Not one and a couple of jammed in wires.

A replacement ballast looks to be about £60. Talking to Bob now about a kit.
