They are better - just come back in the dark in Carolyn's STi......

Separate bulbs/reflectors for dip/main beam, projector lenses for dip.

Differences re STi UK vs Jap - many! Engine mods aside, - different suspension, no rear wipe, no tints, or HID lamps, or strut brace on UK car, but it has Cat 1 alarm, underseal, tracker, locking wheel nuts, three year warranty which Jap car doesn't.

Question

Setting aside the question of different connectors (see thread WARNING STi7 Headlights) are the Headlights on the STi UK of the same performance as the '01 WRX, or are they better/brighter? The brochure and the S-UK webpage are both silent on the subject. And is the STi UK the same as STi 7 (setting aside ECU and emission control measures)?

TIA

Thanks Dave.... Rear wipe sounds interesting - is there a UK item that fits, do you know??

Cheers

Phil

No officially UK supplied car has come with rear wash wipe (with *possible* exception of 22b).

The Jap spec one mounts through the rear screen glass - so it is possible to get the rear screen glass, wiper motor assembly, column stalk, and make up a loom to fit - but this would be a monster job!

Question

Hi Dave,

Regarding your comment that the STi Type-UK has different suspension, do you really mean that or are you just referring to the extra LSD in the front transmission? If there are suspension differences, do you know what they are?

TIA

I was told that the Type UK has different spring/damper rates to the JDM cars - but have not seen a definitive yes or no on this....

Hmmm, I heard the same about the STi4 suspension compared to the 98MY UK cars, but when LEDA tested the spring rates they turned out to be identical to the UK parts. The dampers had nice STi stickers on them, which I suppose might indicate different valving but any change must have been small judging by the ride. (This was on a 4-door, the Type-R definitely had stiffer springs.)

I suppose once a few people have upgraded the stock STi7 suspension we'll find out for sure, as it's dead easy to measure the spring rates and various specialists have suspension dynos that allow damper characteristics to be measured and compared too.

Hi Guys,

This seems to have come a long way the original post about lights. The STi UK has come :&gt)))) and the lights are fine....

But, triggered by the two other oblique topics...

1. Indeed, I thought P1s had rear wash-wipes. Is this right? If so, could one be relatively easily fitted to the STi UK do you think? I've certainly had plenty of opportunity to find out how much rain interferes with the rearward vision this last week or so!!

2. Tho' I haven't really 'driven myself in' with it yet, my first impression of the STiUK is that it's pretty road-sensitive - certainly compared with my previous "cooking" Turbos (I've not driven any Jap STi, so I've no experience there). Any views?

Cheers,

Phil
