Default Side repeater removal

I am after removing my side repeaters (my97 classic)
I was thinking about re-siting them using discreet (clear when off amber when on) LEDs in either the side of the front indicators (I have the early wrap around style) or in the side of the sidelights? I know it can physically be done but I was wondering about the legality of siting them there?? Anybody know the law or have a link regarding side repeaters??

I have found some measurements on the VOSA site. They state that min height for a side repeater is 350mm and max height is 1500mm but nothing about how far from the front they can or can't be. Anybody know if there is a measurement for this and if so what is it??
