Default engine light on after fitting k&n

i have a 04 sti ppp and fitted a k&n 57i induction kit and the engine warning light came on the next day.i took it to the main dealer and he reset th light and said for me to take the k&n off as it will break the flow meter.i asked him about the light and he said it was nothingto worry about so not really sure what caused it.the next day it came on again,i spoke to k&n they say it shouldnt happenso they was not really any use.should i take it off and how do i reset the light,i look forward to your comments.

If you change the induction the car will require a tweak of the map to take the increased air flow into account. You are better off fitting a K&N Panel filter

just fitting the kn wldnt cause a problem or need mapping..its possible during fitting u have a disturbed the maf or its wiring.the problem with the filters is the oil on them gets sucked onto the maf over time and cause them to misread..but unless it was caked in oil it couldnt have happened so quickly

As tc says, fitting an induction kit normally requires the map to be tweaked as the flow characteristics past the maf are changed..
