Been doing a fair bit of searching for options to alter or replace the headlights on my bugeye. Looks like I have the choice of...

De-tango originals
Replace standard bulbs with Halfrauds upgrades..
HID kit (technically not for road use, yup read all that )
Those ones that come in from America on eBay!
Morettes
Prodrive Hellas

Have I missed anything? Can anyone advise what gives the best illumination please?

I can thoroughly recommend HID's they are awesome, ( bug-eye STI ).
I have some Morettes if you are interested, and if you add HID kit to them, you should be very happy !
Prodrive units cost a fortune, so a bit rare !

IMO, Morettes look great, but arn't the best for actual lighting, I am considering getting HIDs fitted to mine though, might sort them out.

 

De-tango and paint reflector covers black, check out NASIOC forums. Its the next step for me following the de-tango - Just need some brave pills before getting the heat gun out...

are morette's very good for light? I had them in my 206 and thought they were ok. i want some now for my bug.

 

Got morrettes on mine and always thought the light they gave off was ok with some uprated bulbs. I had the american ebay ones on before, I think ultra also make them for UK market from Halfrauds, avoid these like the plauge mine were knackered within 2 months all the silver came off from behind the bulbs, they steamed up and the angel eyes on them were rubbish. Wish I had just paid for the morretes in the first place and saved myself 120 quid

 

Morettes tend to be pretty good as they use "proper" (ie: Cibie, Hella), light units.

Uprated bulbs are a good idea, HID gives even more light.

arent hid kits illegal? as someone up there said for off road use....but i thought cars over a certain newer age 2001 upwards can have them legally? and pass mot?? im confused, lol. point me in the right direction Bob!

 

For HIDs to be 100% legal they need to be fitted to a car with HID projectors, self-levelling and headlamp washers.

Of all the kits we have sold, we've not had a single one fail an MOT or have any problems with police etc.

 

ah nice one for the reply bob, checked out ur website and will be ordering a kit. i take it ur price on there is just for the one headlight? i need to actually buy a bug eye first... have to sell my classic found a nice newage i can part exchange for, will your hid kit still pit the morettes or the prodrive headlamps? as i'm not too keen on the standard lights on the bug eye :s

 

One kit does both sides

Best to get in touch once you have the car and know which headlamps you are going to be using.

Hi Bob,

I've a '02 prodrive style sti (has the prodrive heads on) and I am really interested in your hid kit. Any chance you can supply the fitting instructions so I can see if I can manage it myself before I spend? Seems a great price and upgrade (do alot of miles in the proper dark in scotland so the safety benefit will big a real plus for me!)
