I bought a set of secondhand Cibies a while back and had them fitted by my local Subaru dealer. The relays are a bit ropey and could probably do with changing but sadly my electrical knowledge only extends to changing the batteries in my walkman.

Anyway, the cibies originally had 100w bulbs which I changed to 130's. I have since got through about 2 driving lamp bulbs and 2 headlight bulbs both on the same side (in about 4 months). The lights are wired up to only come on with the main beam and are wired through the front fog switch to deactivate them.

Question is then, what can I do to stop blowing bulbs? The fuses in the relays have never blown and all the electrical connections work as they should (except when the bulbs blow). Is it worth changing the relays? (the garage suggested this when they fitted the lights). I find it odd that both the headlamp and driving light on the same side blow and yet no fuses ever go...

The headlamp bulbs are also uprated Scoobysport jobs btw.

I presume the drive lamp bulbs are H2.

If they are only blowing on one side, it is more likely to be a wiring feed/connection/earthing issue - possibly voltage spiking.

Going down to 100w, or even 55w, will probably cure it. You may need new Cibie bulb holders.

It's normal that the bulbs will blow and the fuses don't, the weakest link will always go first - if the fuse is (say) 25a and the bulb is the equivalent of 15a then the bulb will go and not the fuse.
