Default Electrical Newbie Type Question - AFR Sensor

I am fitting a second hand AFR gauge tomorrow...

After a bit of reseach think ive figured it out that i need to tap into the wire on pin no 5 on my ECU (1998 Terzo)

So my newbie question is; by tapping into the wire is it ok to cut and strip either side of the ECU wire and join my sensor wire on via the use of a chocolate box type connector? Sorry if this seems a stupid question its just that i don't want to get it wrong when messing around with the ECU.
